Bio-orthogonal chemistry has been widely used for conjugation of polymer molecules to proteins. Here, we demonstrate the conjugation of polyethylene glycol (PEG) to bovine beta-lactoglobulin (BLG) by photo-induced cyclo-addition of tetrazole-appended PEG and allyl-modified BLG. During the course of the investigation, a significant side-reaction was found to occur for the conjugation of PEG-tetr...

Water potential (Psiomega) values were determined for aqueous colloids of four molecular sizes of polyethylene glycol (PEG) using freezing-point depression and vapor-pressure deficit methods. A significant third-order interaction exists between the method used to determine Psiomega, PEG molecular size, and concentration. At low PEG concentrations, freezing-point depression measurements result i...

Accumulation of carboxylated polyethylene glycol (PEG) CdSe/ZnSquantum dots (QDs) has been monitored in living fibroblasts using confocal microscopy for fluorescence intensity and fluorescence-lifetime imaging (FLIM). The wide range of mean photoluminescence (PL) lifetime values was observed for the intracellular QDs in different intracellular microenvironment, which revealed structural heterog...

A mild and efficient synthesis of pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine-6(7H)-one derivatives via a three-component reaction of an aldehyde, Meldrum's acid and 3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-amine using recyclable polyethylene glycol (PEG)-400 as a reaction medium is described. This method has the advantages of accessible starting materials, good yields, mild reaction conditions and begin environmentally friendly.

Graphene is an increasingly important nanomaterial that has shown great promise in the area of nanotechnology. In this study, fluorescein-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) is synthesized via a polyethylene glycol (PEG) bridge and its application in intracellular imaging is explored. GO is an oxide form of graphene that provides an ideal platform to prepare graphene-based functional nanomateria...

Pegylated interferon alpha (PEG-IFN-alpha) is a formulation of recombinant human interferon conjugated with polyethylene-glycol. This preparation has a long half-life (compared with conventional IFN), which allows for once-weekly injection. Elimination half-life of PEG-IFN-alpha 2b is 22-60 hours (average, 35-40 hours). We report the development of a local necrotizing reaction complicating subc...

In the present study, the oxidation of 3-(4-chloro-1H-imidazol-5-yl)-1-(2-hydroxyphenyl)prop-2-en-1ones with mercuric(II) acetate in in polyethylene glycol (PEG-400) gave the corresponding 2-((4-chloro-1Himidazol-5-yl)methylene)benzofuran-3(2H)-ones. Newly synthesized compounds were tested for their in vitro antimicrobial activity.

Graphene oxide nanoribbons (GONRs) were covalently functionalized with an antibody using polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a linker to produce a novel probe for surface enhanced laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry (SELDI MS). This probe provides a highly sensitive and selective platform for enrichment and MS detection of small molecules in complex media.

Pleurotus eous colonies regenerated on plates containing complete medium overlaid with soft agar gave 0.28% regeneration efficiency, while that of Pleurotus flabellatus was slightly less (0.24%). In PEG (polyethylene glycol) induced fusion experiments with Pleurotus eous and Pleurotus flabellatus, 0.18% of fusion frequency was achieved and four fusant colonies were recovered. The fusant No.4 co...

This protocol describes how to transform moss (Physcomitrella patens) protoplasts using polyethylene glycol (PEG)-mediated DNA uptake. The transformation rates for direct uptake by protoplasts of DNA with and without genomic sequence (a targeting construct) are typically 10 and 10, respectively. (These are the frequencies of stable transformants among regenerants surviving the transformation pr...
