In this study, fungal strains with crude oil biodegradation activity were screened from Shazand oil refinery (Arak). Twelve fungal strains were isolated in PDA medium. TPH assay in the presence of 1% of crude oil showed that the ADH-02 was the most capable strain of oil degradation with an efficiency of 75%. FTIR analysis was revealed that 91% of aliphatic hydrocarbons were degraded by ADH-02. ...
Many polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are known carcinogens, and a considerable amount of research has been devoted to predicting the tumor-initiating potential of PAHs based on chemical structure. However, there has been little research into the effects of PAHs on the epigenetic events of tumor promotion and no structural correlation has been made thereof. Gap junctional intercellular c...
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are very toxic and persistent environmental contaminants. This study was undertaken to assess the concentrations and possible sources of 16 PAHs (Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) classified by the United State Environmental Protection Agency as priority pollutants in water and sediments of the Mvudi and Nzhelele Rivers. Effluents from Thohoyandou wastewater tre...
Text: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) consist of two or more carbon-hydrogen rings in which at least one ring has an aromatic structure. . PAHs are known to have important carcinogenic and mutagenic effects. Furthermore, these compounds can undergo photo chemically induced oxidation and nitration reactions with reactive oxygen species (ROSs) [e.g., ozone (O3) and radicals such as single...
Background and Objective: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) constitute a large class of organic compounds that are composed of two or more fused aromatic rings. Due to their potential mutagenic, carcinogenic and teratogenic effects on human health, PAHs have attracted particular concern. Therefore, in this study it was attempted to measure the PAHs concentration in the study area to evalu...
A computational investigation of geometric parameters, infrared (IR) and Raman frequencies as well molecular Rayleigh scattering polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), used models for subunits larger graphitic materials.
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) derived from fossil fuels are ubiquitous contaminants and occur in aquatic habitats as highly variable and complex mixtures of compounds containing 2 to 6 rings. For aquatic species, PAHs are generally accepted as acting through either of two modes of action: (1) "dioxin-like" toxicity mediated by activation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR), which c...
Microplastic particles in terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems are currently discussed as an emerging persistent organic pollutant and as acting as a vector for hydrophobic chemicals. Microplastic particles may ultimately deposit and accumulate in soil as well as marine and freshwater sediments where they can be harmful to organisms. In this study, we tested the sensitivity of natural freshwater ...
The teleost fish embryo is particularly sensitive to petroleum hydrocarbons (polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, PAHs) at two distinct stages of development. The first is early during cleavage stages when PAHs alter normal signaling associated with establishment of the dorsal-ventral axis. This disruption involves the Wnt/β-catenin pathway and results in hyperdorsalized embryos that do not surviv...
Two tetraceno[2,1,12,11-opqra]tetracene-extended tetrathia-fulvalenes were prepared and found to undergo reversible conversion into their planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) upon electrochemical oxidation - at potentials probing the best valence bond representations.
