Plantar fasciitis (PF) is present in 10% of the population and is the most common cause of plantar heel pain. PF is painful, can alter daily activities and presents as a sharp pain localized to the plantar foot and medial heel. The underlying etiology involves microtrauma to the plantar fascia, specifically at its insertion point on the calcaneus. Successful management of plantar fasciitis is t...
Palmoplantar keratoderma (PPK) is a condition where the patient has thick, hard skin on palms and soles. It can cause considerable discomfort impairment of function. This problem sometimes inherited (hPPK). There are many varieties hPPK which all uncommon. They show variation in presentation, severity, genetics associated abnormalities.
Objective: This study aims to compare the variables of plantar force, pressure and impulse during walking in men and women with flat feet. Methods: The study population consists of non-athlete students with and without flat feet. Of these, 48 (male and female) were selected as study samples. The peak pressure, force and impulse on the foot were measured during walking by a foot scanner at a sa...
pachyonychia congenital (pc) is a rare autosomal dominant genodermatosis characterized hyperkeratosis affecting the nails and palmoplantar areas, oral leukokeratosis, and cystic lesions. a 39-year-old woman with pc type 1 (jadassohn-lewandowsky syndrome) and b-cell lymphoma is described. no similar disorders or parental consanguinity were found in her family. typical features of pc developed si...
Aquagenic keratoderma (AK) or aquagenic wrinklingis a rare palmoplantar skin disease. It is sporadic orhereditary condition. It appears in childhood or youngadulthood and it is seen as multiple asymptomaticsmall shiny papules on the peripheral margin ofpalms and/or soles after submersion in water. Thepathogenesis and etiology of ASA remains unclear.Drugs sometimes trigger AK. Herein, we present...
BACKGROUND Studies investigating the nutritional status of patients with leprosy and plantar ulcers are sparse. Therefore, the objective of this study was to describe the protein profile of leprosy patients with plantar ulcers from the Eastern Amazon region. METHODS A case record form was created for 75 patients with leprosy (31 with plantar ulcers and 44 without plantar ulcers) with the foll...
BACKGROUND Plantar pressure measurements often are used as a tool to evaluate pathologic gait. Previous studies, often done at self-selected walking speeds, have used peak plantar pressure to try to predict ulcer formation, compare surgical outcomes, and evaluate orthotic device efficacy. However, the relationship between walking speed and plantar pressures at specific plantar regions has not b...
Mal de Meleda is a rare form of palmoplantar keratoderma, and recently mutations in the ARS (component) B gene have been identified in families with this disease. We identified a recurrent nonsense mutation, R96X, in four families of Turkish descent. In this report, we demonstrate that these families share a common ancestral haplotype at the mal de Meleda locus, suggesting a founder effect.
