The in-plane stiffness (C), Poisson's ratio (ν), Young's modulus and ultimate strength (σ) along two different crystallographic orientations are calculated for the single layer crystals: MoS2, HfS2 and TiS3 in 1H, 1T and monoclinic phases. We find that MoS2 and HfS2 have isotropic in-plane stiffnesses of 124.24 N m(-1) and 79.86 N m(-1), respectively. While for TiS3 the in-plane stiffness is hi...

In this paper, on the basis of a new strain gradient elasticity theory, wave propagation in rectangular nanoplates by considering in-plane magnetic field is studied. This strain gradient theory has two gradient parameters and has the ability to compare with the nonlocal elasticity theory. From the best knowledge of author, it is the first time that this theory is used for investigating wave pro...

We investigate the strain-induced electronic and magnetic properties of single-layer (1L) MoS2 with vacancy defects using the density functional theory calculation. When the tensile strain is applied, 1L-MoS2 with vacancy becomes ferromagnetic and metallic. We elucidate that, from the electronic band structure of vacancy-defect-doped 1L-MoS2, the impurity bands inside the gap play a role of see...

Abstract A plane-strain-tension stress state leads to a minimum in ductility most micro-mechanical and phenomenological fracture models as well Forming Limit Curves. Hence, this plays crucial role many applications reliable measurement of the strain under plane tension is particular importance when calibrating modern initiation models. Recently, new experimental technique has been proposed for ...

We report neutron scattering experiments probing the influence of uniaxial strain on both the magnetic and structural order parameters in the parent iron pnictide compound, BaFe2As2. Our data show that modest strain fields along the in-plane orthorhombic b axis can affect significant changes in phase behavior simultaneous to the removal of structural twinning effects. As a result, we demonstrat...

Two-dimensional (2D) magnetoelectric multiferroics are promising multifunctional materials for miniaturized logic and memory devices. Herein, we explore the effectiveness of strain-engineering tuning properties a recently predicted 2D antiferromagnetic-ferroelectric, VOCl2 monolayer. Interestingly, find that magnetic-ordering electric polarization can be tuned independently using uniaxial tensi...

A problem of thermally-induced residual stress under plane strain constraint is considered based on a Body Force Method (BFM). As a numerical example, a simple problem of limited plasticity due to a uniform strength of transient line heat source of finite width, which is applied to a surface of a semi-infinite solid for a short duration of time, was considered. Although the out-of-plane compone...

Strain softening is responsible for mesh dependence in numerical analyses concerning a vast variety of fields such as solid mechanics, dynamics, biomechanics and geomechanics. Therefore, methods that regularize strain localization are paramount the analysis design engineering products systems. In this paper we revisit elasto-viscoplastic, strain-softening, strain-rate hardening model means to a...

The mechanical stability of nanocrystal films is critical for applications, yet largely unexplored. Raman microprobe analysis used here to probe the nanocrystal cores of thick, fractured electrophoretically deposited films of 3.2 nm diameter CdSe nanocrystals measures approximately 2.5% in-plane tensile strain in cores of unfractured films. The crack dimensions determine the overall in-plane fi...
