The role of planar cell polarity (PCP) signalling in neural crest (NC) development is unclear. The PCP dependence of NC cell migration has been reported inXenopus and zebrafish, but NCmigration has not been studied in mammalian PCP mutants. Vangl2 mouse embryos lack PCP signalling and undergo almost complete failure of neural tube closure. Here we show, however, that NC specification, migration...

BACKGROUND Although the association of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) with connective tissue disease (CTD) has been noted for a long time, there are few series reported. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to describe clinical features and prognosis of PCP infections in patients with CTD in China. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the characteristics, clinical features, and pr...

Pentachlorophenol (PCP) is a persistent and ubiquitous environmental contaminant. No published data exist on the temporal variability or important predictors of urinary PCP concentrations in young children. In this further analysis of study data, we have examined the associations between selected sociodemographic or lifestyle factors and urinary PCP concentrations in 115 preschool children over...

OBJECTIVE This study documents the influence of having an assigned Medicaid primary care physician (PCP) on the utilization of otitis media-related services. DESIGN/METHODS This is a retrospective study using the 1991 Colorado Medicaid administrative database that followed 28 844 children <13 years who had at least 1 visit for otitis media. RESULTS Children continuously enrolled in Medicaid...

BACKROUND Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PCP) is an opportunistic fungal infection that is associated with a high morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised individuals. In this study, we analysed the microbiome of the lower respiratory tract from critically ill intensive care unit patients with and without pneumocystosis. METHODS Broncho-alveolar fluids from 65 intubated and mechanicall...

A Zero-Knowledge PCP (ZK-PCP) is a randomized PCP such that the view of any (perhaps cheating) efficient verifier can be efficiently simulated up to small statistical distance. Kilian, Petrank, and Tardos (STOC ’97) constructed ZK-PCPs for all languages in NEXP. Ishai, Mahmoody, and Sahai (TCC ’12), motivated by cryptographic applications, revisited the possibility of efficient ZK-PCPs for all ...

The planar cell polarity (PCP) pathway is a cell-contact mediated mechanism for transmitting polarity information between neighboring cells. PCP "core components" (Vangl, Fz, Pk, Dsh, and Celsr) are essential for a number of cell migratory events including the posterior migration of facial branchiomotor neurons (FBMNs) in the plane of the hindbrain neuroepithelium in zebrafish and mice. While t...

Phencyclidine (PCP), a noncompetitive N-methyl d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist, provides the most complete pharmacologic model of schizophrenia in humans and animals. Acute PCP causes hyperlocomotion, disrupts prepulse inhibition (PPI), and increases social avoidance in rats. We have previously shown that repeated treatment with the dopamine (DA) D2-like receptor agonists, quinpirole or ...

Repeated administration of phencyclidine (PCP), a noncompetitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor blocker, produces schizophrenia-like behaviors in humans and rodents. Although impairment of synaptic function has been implicated in the effect of PCP, the molecular mechanisms have not yet been elucidated. Considering that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) plays an important role in sy...

We have administered aerosolized pentamidine (AP) to 48 AIDS patients for secondary prophylaxis of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP). Pentamidine 60 mg was administered by ultrasonic nebulization (Fisoneb) five times during the first two weeks and then every two weeks. The mean follow-up was 343 +/- 22 days. PCP recurred in ten patients, 297 +/- 33 days after starting AP therapy. All respond...
