Tissue immunostaining is critically important in clinical applications, and antibodies have been used extensively as the molecular probes. Recently, aptamer, as a new class of probes, have attracted much attention for their potential clinical and research value. Epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) is a specific biomarker which is overexpressed in many cancers of epithelial origin. Here, a...
BACKGROUND Self-made tissue punches can be effectively used to punch holes in blank recipient paraffin blocks and extract tissue cores from the donor paraffin blocks for the low-cost construction of tissue microarrays (TMAs). However, variable degrees of section distortion and loss of the tissue cores can occurs during cutting of the TMAs, posing technical problems for in-house manual construct...
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis of DNA isolated from formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue can be difficult because of the inherently poor quality of template DNA available for amplification. As a consequence of the formalin fixation process, DNA is complexed with proteins and is often nicked, giving relatively short fragments. Such samples are often of low DNA concentration and...
Context: Developmental odontogenic cysts account for 25% of all odontogenic cysts of the jaw. They are commonly associated with impacted or embedded teeth like mandibular/maxillary third molar and maxillary canines. Dentigerous cyst (DC) is a common developmental odontogenic cyst, but its inflammatory variant is quite rare. Settings and design: The representative tissue received was 10% formali...
The antigen retrieval (AR) technique, which is predominantly based on high-temperature heating of tissues, is used as a non-enzymatic pretreatment for immunohistochemical staining of formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue sections. It has been widely applied in pathology and analytical morphology. The existence of a growing body of literature on the AR technique raises a number of interesting...
We report the use of PCR techniques on a formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimen for direct detection of one dominant azole resistance mechanism in a case of disseminated invasive aspergillosis. Rapid detection of mutations associated with azole resistance directly in tissue significantly reduces diagnostic delay.
