Human papillomavirus vaccines have potential to reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality; however, cultural and economic barriers may hinder success in developing countries. We assessed impact of a single vaccine campaign in Mali with use of mathematical modeling. Our model shows that decreases in the prevalence of Human papillomavirus infection are proportional to achieved vaccination co...

The human cervical carcinoma cell line ME180 was examined for human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA and RNA. The integrated DNA of a presumably new HPV type showing a relationship closer to HPV39 than to HPV18 was cloned and sequenced. HPV sequences from the E6-E7-E1 region are expressed as poly(A)+ RNAs.

We report the complete genomic sequence of Phodopus sungorus papillomavirus type 1 (PsPV1), isolated from an anogenital lesion of a Siberian hamster. PsPV1 is taxonomically classified in the genus Pipapillomavirus and is most closely related to Mesocricetus auratus papillomavirus 1 (MaPV1).

Real-time type-specific multiplex human papillomavirus (HPV) PCR assays were developed to detect HPV DNA in samples collected for the efficacy determination of the quadrivalent HPV (type 6, 11, 16, and 18) L1 virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine (Gardasil). Additional multiplex (L1, E6, and E7 open reading frame [ORF]) or duplex (E6 and E7 ORF) HPV PCR assays were developed to detect high-risk HPV...

In this study, we have examined intratype human papillomavirus (HPV) sequence variation in a worldwide collection of cervical specimens. Twelve different HPV types including HPV-18, HPV-33, HPV-35, HPV-39, HPV-45, HPV-51, HPV-52, HPV-58, HPV-59, HPV-68 (ME180), MM9/PAP238A (recently designated HPV-73), and a novel partial genomic HPV sequence designated MM4/Wl3B were analyzed in this study. Cer...

We conducted a cross-sectional analysis to assess the distribution of human papillomavirus (HPV) types and explored an acceptable strategy for cervical screening in Shenzhen, China. A total of 2717 individuals ranging in age from 30-59 years were recruited. Clinical sensitivity and specificity as well as positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive values were estimated. A triage strategy was r...

Previous studies have shown that human papillomavirus (HPV) 16 E6 inhibits apoptosis induced during terminal differentiation of primary human keratinocytes (PHKs) triggered by serum and calcium. E6 inhibition of apoptosis was accompanied with prolonged expression of Bcl-2 and reduced elevation of Bax levels. In the present study, the effect of E6 on Bax mRNA expression and protein stability was...

OBJECTIVES The assessment of the prevalence of antibodies to human papillomaviruses (HPV) in the healthy population is essential for effective planning of HPV vaccine implementation into the preventive programmes for HPV-associated diseases and for the prospective monitoring of the impact of HPV vaccines in the Czech population. METHODS The seropositivity for HPV-6, 11, 16, 18, 31 and 33 viru...

The E2 protein segregates episomal bovine papillomavirus (BPV) genomes to daughter cells by tethering them to mitotic chromosomes, thus ensuring equal distribution and retention of viral DNA. To date, only the BPV1 E2 protein has been shown to bind to mitotic chromosomes. We assessed the localization of 13 different animal and human E2 proteins from seven papillomavirus genera, and we show that...

OBJECTIVES To determine gene frequencies of HLA-DR alleles in 22 Mexican patients with focal epithelial hyperplasia and compare them with those present in ethnically matched healthy subjects, as well as to determine the types of human papillomavirus present in the lesions. DESIGN Prospective and retrospective observational study. SETTING Dermatology outpatient clinic in a general hospital. ...
