Isolated torsion of the fallopian tube without ovarian involvement and associated pathology is a rare event. We report an 18-year-old single female who presented with acute lower abdominal pain during menstruation after a minor trauma of the pelvis. It was diagnosed as isolated torsion of normal right tube during laparatomy due to herniation of the tube through a tear in the broad ligament.
We report a case of right adnexal torsion during pregnancy after an oocyte in vitro maturation and intracitoplasmic sperm injection cycle in patient with polycystic ovary syndrome. A 31-year-old woman with a typical clinical disorder of polycystic ovarian syndrome was included in an oocyte in vitro maturation program. Right adnexal torsion occurred two days after embryo transfer, and laparoscop...
Ovarian vein thrombosis is a rare clinical entity that may present in the puerperium. We report the clinical outcomes of two cases of postpartum ovarian vein thrombosis, incidentally diagnosed at laparotomy in 16-year-old and 23-year-old females. They had preoperative diagnosis of torsion tuboovarian mass and twisted pedunculated uterine fibroid, respectively. Both patients had transection and ...
Intestinal pathologies due to ovarian cyst are observed rarely. Although a limited number of cases in neonatal and adolescent periods have been observed, no adult case has been reported in the literature. Two mechanisms are involved in intestinal complications due to ovarian cysts: torsion due to adhesion or compression of giant ovarian mass with a diameter of 9-10 cm. We report here a terminal...
Protective Effect of Caffeic Acid Phenethyl Ester (CAPE) on Ischemia–Reperfusion Injury in Rat Ovary
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) as a prophylactic agent on ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury in the rat ovary. A total of 28 Wistar rats were divided into 4 equal groups: (I) sham, (II) ischemia, (III) ischemia + reperfusion, and (IV) IR + CAPE. In groups I and II, ovary torsion was not performed and no drug was administered. In group ...
A 26-year-old woman presented with acute onset of right-sided pelvic pain and had a medical history significant for migraine headaches and polycystic ovarian disease. Ultrasonography demonstrated bilateral ovarian tumors, and the patient underwent laparoscopic removal of bilateral cystic teratomas. A literature review focused on similar presentations of teratomas revealed isolated cases of migr...
Abstract Aim Review role and accuracy of imaging, subsequent management, patients with ovarian torsion managed at a tertiary paediatric centre. Method Retrospective review notes for undergoing surgery over 10 years (2010-2019). Results 23 underwent (one excluded due to lack data). Median age 12 years[range 1-15]. 18/22 imaging; 15/18 had USS, 12/15(80%) were diagnostic torsion. 3/15 showed path...
