BACKGROUND Oral cancers can be preceded by clinically evident oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). The current study evaluated the rate and the time of malignant transformation in the various OPMDs in a cohort of patients from southern Taiwan. Parameters possibly indicative for malignant transformation of OPMDs, such as epidemiological and etiological factors, and clinical and histopat...
Abstract Objectives Tokyo Dental College started oral cancer screening in cooperation with a local dental association 1992. Reveal the usefulness of Countermeasure and Opportunistic Screening Systems for Oral Cancer. The actual results countermeasure opportunistic systems are reported. Materials Methods public was performed each region, general clinic cooperating physician. Results In screening...
Due to a high risk and tendency of OPMDs towards OSCC, its early detection is essential for better survival rate. Several molecular markers are available diagnosis prognostic assessments OPMDs, also evaluating aggressiveness OSCC. Objectives: To assess the immuno-histochemical expression Cyclin D1 in normal healthy oral mucosa. has significant role cell cycle control strongly linked with metast...
Background: Mast cells have been studied for decades due to their prominent role in normal homeostasis and various pathologies. They display a diversity of roles and are proposed to be a part in the pathogenesis of various pathologic lesions. Aims and Objectives: To histologically evaluate the number of mast cells in tissue sections of oral inflammatory lesions, potentially malignant disorders ...
Background Podoplanin is a type I transmembrane sialomucin-like glycoprotein that is specifically expressed in lymphatic endothelial cells. Studies have shown that assessment of podoplanin expression in the epithelial cells can be used to predict the malignant transformation of potentially malignant disorders and the metastatic tendency of primary head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. The aim ...
Oral submucous fibrosis is one of the leading potentially malignant disorders prevailing in India. A number of conservative and surgical treatment options have been suggested for this potentially malignant disorder (Arakeri and Brennan, 2013). While the role of physiotherapy has been highlighted in the conservative management, its importance in postsurgical cases to avoid scar contracture and s...
Spindle cell carcinoma (SpCC), a variant of squamous cell carcinoma, is a biphasic malignant neoplasm that occurs mainly in the upper aerodigestive tract. It is uncommon in oral cavity, accounting for <1% of all tumors in oral cavity. Furthermore, it is uncommon for oral potentially malignant disorders such as leukoplakia to undergo transformation into SpCC. In this paper, we are reporting a ca...
