Mobilized peripheral blood is the most common graft source for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation following reduced-intensity conditioning. In assessing the effect of donor cell dose and graft composition on major transplant outcomes in the reduced-intensity setting, prior studies focused primarily on CD34(+)cell dose and reported conflicting results, especially in relation to s...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical value of lactate measurement and nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) counts when compared to base excess (BE) in the blood collected from the placental segment of the umbilical vein. METHODS 25 umbilical cords from premature babies were sampled after placental delivery and cord clamping. Babies were followed until discharge. Statistics involved linear regression...
The Bombay (Oh) Phenotype is a rare blood group. Phenotypes of this group lack H antigens on their red blood cell membrane and have strongly reactive anti-H in the serum for which patients can receive only autologus or Bombay phenotype red blood cells. We report three cases with Bombay blood group in the city of Yazd to emphasize the transfusion challenges in such patients.
Fetal cells can be isolated using several enrichment methods, however, since no technique to specifically isolate and use them for genetic diagnosis has reached clinical practice, prenatal diagnosis currently requires invasive procedures. A micromachined device to fractionate whole blood using physical means to enrich for and/or isolate rare cell types from peripheral circulation was designed. ...
Using an easy and safe procedure for fetal blood sampling in utero, we studied 3,415 fetuses for prenatal diagnosis. Retrospectively, 2,860 normal blood samples, performed from the 18th week of gestation to the end of pregnancy, were selected. Differentials were evaluated in 732 cases. Burst-forming unit erythroid (BFU-E) and erythropoietin (Epo) were measured in 27 and 163 cases, respectively....
OBJECTIVE Elevated nucleated red blood cell (NRBC) count is introduced as a potential marker of intra-uterine growth restriction (IUGR). To investigate the probable association regardless of any known underlying disease, we aimed to study disturbances in NRBC count in infants experiencing idiopathic IUGR. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty three infants regarded IUGR without any known cause were ch...

Nucleated red blood cells (NRBCs) are premature erythrocyte precursors that reside in the bone marrow of humans all ages as an element erythropoiesis. They rarely present healthy adults’ circulatory systems but can be found circulating fetuses and neonates. An NRBC count is a cost-effective laboratory test currently used everyday clinical practice; it mostly diagnosis hematological diseases/dis...
hyperleukocytosis is an oncological emergency but is extremely rare in non-malignant conditions. nucleated rbcs give rise to spuriously high total leucocyte count and cause clinical dilemma. thalassemia major patients are known to have leucocytosis even after correction for nucleated rbcs. we report a case of undiagnosed thalassemia major in a 4 month old infant with total leucocyte count highe...
Haematology The mean cell volume (MCV) indicates the average size of red blood cells (RBCs). Regenerative anaemias are usually macrocytic because reticulocytes have high MCVs. However, macrocytosis is not just a feature of regenerative anaemias since non-regenerative anaemias associated with FeLV infection or myelodysplasia can be associated with macrocytosis (Shimoda, et al 2000, Weiss 2006b)....
