Reduction and alkylation of human myeloperoxidase under nondenaturing conditions results in the cleavage of this enzyme. Sedimentation equilibrium data is presented which shows that the molecular weight of the cleavage product (78,000 +/- 2,000) is half that of the native enzyme (153,000 +/- 4,000). We conclude that the cleavage product is the half-enzyme hemi-myeloperoxidase. Hemi-myeloperoxid...

[1] Understanding the processes controlling chemical sedimentation is an important step in deciphering paleoclimatic conditions from the rock records preserved on both Earth and Mars. Clear evidence for subaqueous sedimentation at Meridiani Planum, widespread saline mineral deposits in the Valles Marineris region, and the possible role of saline waters in forming recent geomorphologic features ...

Geomorphology, clay mineral composition, and radiocarbon dates from Muttukadu to Marakkanam estuaries and the tidal zone along the east coast of Tamil Nadu, India, have been used to reconstruct coastal evolution between approximately 4500 and 1100 BP. Formation of alternate oyster beds with intervening tidal clay units indicate fluctuation in the sea level may be a consequence of changes in the...

Low density proteoglycans (PG-III) were isolated from bovine articular cartilage by extraction with 4 M guanidinium chloride followed by sedimentation in a dissociative CsCl density gradient and fractionation by chromatography on DEAE-cellulose and Sepharose CL-6B columns. The PG fractions obtained were analyzed to determine the amino acid composition, the content of sulfate and carbohydrate co...

In the conditions of progressive contamination surface sources water supply and inefficient wastewater treatment when using existing technologies, research problem justification use sorption materials for retention specific pollutants, in particular heavy metal ions radionuclides, is urgent. The parameters that determine efficiency sorbents are indicators their sedimentation rate. purpose exper...

Egg yolk is an essential ingredient for the preparation of a large variety of food emulsions. Thereby the emulsifying properties of egg yolk depend mainly on the physiological status of the two egg yolk fractions, granules (HDL) and plasma (LDL), which can be influenced by environmental conditions. Recent studies substantiate that a separate use of each fraction in innovative food products will...

Cytidine deaminase activity, C reactive protein, histidine, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate were measured in 36 subjects with psoriatic arthritis of varying disease duration and severity. Although cytidine deaminase activity may provide an integrated measure of synovial inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis, neutrophil accumulation in psoriatic plaques compromises this measure in psoriatic ar...

Molecular weights (molar masses), molecular weight distributions, dissociation constants and other interaction parameters are fundamental characteristics of proteins, nucleic acids, polysaccharides and glycoconjugates in solution. Sedimentation equilibrium analytical ultracentrifugation provides a powerful method with no supplementary immobilization, columns or membranes required. It is a parti...

Extraction of glycogen from rabbit liver and from Ascaris muscle at low temperatures and without the use of alkali or acid yields a product, the sedimentation characteristics of which differ considerably from those of glycogen isolated by more drastic procedures (1). Glycogen extracted with cold water not only exhibits a markedly higher weight average sedimentation coefficient, but also a much ...

A model for the emplacement, bioturbation, and preservation of fine scaled sedimentary strata has been used to evaluate the impact of interacting physical and biological sedimentary processes on preserved sedimentary fabric in three contrasting shelf and estuarine depositional settings: Eckernförde Bay, German Baltic Sea; the Eel Shelf, northern California, USA; and the northern Gulf of Alaska ...
