The mining chute is an important equipment in the process of coal transportation and coal screening preparation. During the working process, the mining chute will generate a lot of vibration and noise because of constantly friction and impact of gangue and coal blocks. In order to reduce the vibration and noise during the operation of the chute, a new type of foam aluminum laminated structure i...

The paper presents noise reduction (NR) of spiral ducts as a result of computational modeling of acoustic wave propagation. Three-dimensional models were created with the finite element method in COMSOL Multiphysics version 3.3. Nine models of spiral ducts with 1-9 spiral leads were considered. Time-harmonic analysis was used to predict NR, which was shown in spectral and interval frequency ban...

A noise reduction scheme, particularly suited for the correction of vocal pathologies, is proposed. The filter makes use of concepts originated within the theory of dynamical systems and deterministic chaos. In particular, the idea of embedding scalar data in order to reconstruct a phase space is of fundamental importance here. Furthermore, the concept of an attractor as a result of dynamical c...

The electrical activity of the heart usually shows dynamical behavior which is neither periodic nor deterministically chaotic: The interbeat intervals seem to contain a random component. Although long term predictions are thus impossible, good predictions can be made for times smaller than one heart cycle. This fact is used in order to suppress measurement errors by a local geometric projection...

A class of filters based on histograms are presented. The signal probability density function is estimated and filtering is performed in the pdf domain. Such filters can be designed to preserve signal features such as sharp edges while suppressing stochastic variations. One particular histogram filter scheme is evaluated and compared to a median filter and a normal gaussian blurring filter.

This paper introduces a novel method for noise reduction in medical images based on concepts of the Non-Local Means algorithm. The main objective has been to develop a method that optimizes the processing speed to achieve practical applicability without compromising the quality of the resulting images. A database consisting of prototypes, composed of pixel neighborhoods originating from several...

Real world signals usually contain departures from the ideal signal that would be produced by our model of the signal production process. Such departures are referred to as noise. Noise arises as a result of unmodelled processes going on in the production and capture of the real signal. It is not part of the ideal signal and may be caused by a wide range of sources, e.g. variations in the detec...
