We present the theoretical and experimental results of photorefractive two-beam coupling in Cr-doped strontium barium niobate:60, using thermal excitation (i.e., dark conductivity) to model the experimentally observed temperature-dependent behavior of the two-beam coupling constant and response time.

A radio frequency (RF) photonic filter is experimentally demonstrated using an optical tapped delay line (TDL) based on an optical frequency comb and a periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguide as multiplexer. The approach is used to implement RF filters with variable bandwidth, shape, and center-frequency.

While retaining its lamellar liquid crystal phase, K4Nb6O17 nanosheets were used as a template to sandwich and stabilize an alkylpoly(ethylene oxide) nonionic surfactant-water system showing monodomain (lamella) formation within the inorganic niobate sheets that appears to be not dependent on the surfactant liquid crystalline state in solution but more its concentration.

The properties of one-dimensional quadratic walking solitons were investigated in planar lithium niobate waveguides near the type I phase-matching condition for second-harmonic generation. Wave propagation was studied under different conditions of phase matching, walk-off angle, and incident fundamental power.

We present the first experimental demonstration of enhanced second-harmonic generation (SHG) by means of power confinement with a femtosecond laser in a photovoltaic soliton-induced waveguide. A dark spatial soliton created with a weak cw laser beam in a photovoltaic lithium niobate crystal induces an efficient waveguide for SHG, leading to a 60% enhancement of the conversion efficiency.

We investigate experimentally the interaction of two-dimensional solitary beams in photorefractive strontium barium niobate crystal. We show that simultaneous collision of many solitons can result in complete annihilation of some of them. This effect depends on the relative phases of the solitons and may be useful for application in the formation of multiport waveguide junctions.

Persistent holograms are recorded with red light in lithium niobate crystals doped with manganese and iron. Different erasure mechanisms are investigated, and a recording schedule for multiplexing holograms with equal diffraction efficiencies is proposed. To test the recording schedule experimentally, we multiplex 50 plane-wave holograms with the proposed recording schedule.

This Letter proposes a method for tunable automatically locked homodyne detection of wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) dual-polarization (DP) phase-shift keyed (PSK) channels using nonlinear mixing. Two stages of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN) waveguides and an LCoS filter enable automatic phase locking of the channels to a local laser.

Angled and staggered gratings are used for quasi-phase matching of antisymmetric TM(10) modes in periodically poled lithium niobate waveguides with high efficiency. Control of the symmetry of the nonlinear coefficient d adds a new degree of freedom in the choice of which waveguide modes will interact in a quasi-phase-matched device.

This letter reports telecom-band sequential time-bin entangled photon-pair generation at a repetition rate of 10 GHz in periodically poled reverse-proton-exchange lithium niobate waveguides based on mode demultiplexing. With up-conversion single-photon detectors, we observed an entangled-photon-pair flux of 313 Hz and a two-photon-interference-fringe visibility of 85.32% without subtraction of ...
