Microtia reconstructive surgery is usually a multi-stage repair procedure that involves the use of cartilage and skin grafts. Complications can arise at both ear reconstruction sites and cartilage donor sites. In particular, pneumothorax, atelectasis, chest scars, and chest deformities are known to be associated with the harvesting of costal cartilage. However, delayed pleural effusion can also...
Microtia is the complete absence of auricular tissues. Total reconstruction of the ear is one of the most difficult problems is reconstructive surgery. Classical multi-staged reconstructions can achieve satisfactory results but they require multiple hospitalizations and high cost. The ideal would be reconstruction of a life-like ear in one operation. Yeguang Song from China has done one stage t...
Let fρ(L) indicate the smallest integer so that every curve on a fixed hyperbolic surface (S, ρ) of length at most L lifts to a simple curve on a cover of degree at most fρ(L). We provide linear lower bounds for fρ(L), improving a recent result of Gupta-Kapovich [6]. When (S, ρ) is without punctures, using work of Patel [9] and Lenzhen-Rafi-Tao [7] we conclude that fρ(L)/L grows like the recipr...
Dens in dente are known to be associated with many dental abnormalities such as taurodontism microdontia, gemination, and dens evaginatus. This paper describes a rare case of double dens in dente in a lateral incisor with crown morphology similar to a premolar present in a patient with features of albinism. Problems associated with this condition and their management is discussed.
