Detrital zircon U-Pb ages for 30 Late Jurassic and Cretaceous sandstones from the Eastern Province of eastern New Zealand, combined with previously-published geochronological and palaeontological data, constrain the time of deposition in the Pahau and Waioeka terranes of the Cretaceous accretionary margin of Zealandia, and their adjacent cover strata. The zircon age patterns also constrain poss...

The oxygen isotope composition of fossil fish teeth, a paleoupper ocean temperature proxy exceptionally resistant to diagenetic alteration, provides new insight on the evolution of the lowto middlelatitude thermal gradient between the middle Cretaceous climatic optimum and the cooler latest Cretaceous period. The new middle Cretaceous low to middle latitude thermal gradient agrees with that pre...

S U M M A R Y The Upper Carboniferous-Lower Triassic Pyongan Supergroup is exposed in an E-W trending syncline comprising the Samcheok Coalfield in eastern South Korea; it borders the southern margin of a NE-SW trending (Okcheon) zone of Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous deformation (Daebo Orogeny). Although a Recent field overprint widely recorded in Korean rocks is represented here, an ancient ...

three granitoid bodies, shirkuh batholith, kaffe abad and ader bolandan are exposed in nw yazd, cutting across the naiband formation (upper triassic), and overlain by cretaceous formations. shirkuh batholith is most likely of jurassic age. it seems to be the first and the most significant episode of magmatism in studied area which occurred in middle jurassic (late cimmerian) time. on the other ...

a r t i c l e i n f o 14 C adjusted model age Paleowesterlies Paleomonsoon Sixteen groundwater samples collected from production wells tapping Lower Cretaceous Nubian Sandstone and fractured basement aquifers in Sinai were analyzed for their stable isotopic compositions, dissolved noble gas concentrations (recharge temperatures), tritium activities, and 14 C abundances. Results define two group...

Cretorabus rasnitsynisp. n., belonging to the extinct subfamily Protorabinae of Carabidae, was described based on a well-preserved specimen from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of Yangshuwanzi, Inner Mongolia. The diagnostic characters forCretorabus are revised, and the key to species of the genus was presented. The fossil record of Protorabinae was summarized. Sinocarabus Hong, 1982 and ...

A new fossil mushroom is described and illustrated from the Lower Cretaceous Crato Formation of northeast Brazil. Gondwanagaricites magnificus gen. et sp. nov. is remarkable for its exceptional preservation as a mineralized replacement in laminated limestone, as all other fossil mushrooms are known from amber inclusions. Gondwanagaricites represents the oldest fossil mushroom to date and the fi...

Libanopsyllipsocus alexanderasnitsynigen. et sp. n., of Psyllipsocidae is described and figured from the Lower Cretaceous amber of Lebanon. The position of the new taxon is discussed and the fossil is compared to other psyllipsocids. The species represents the earliest record of the family Psyllipsocidae.

Palerasnitsynus ohlhoffigen. et sp. n. is described fromBurmese amber of late Albian (Lower Cretaceous) age. This is the first record of the family Psychomyiidae from Burmese amber, and the earliest fossil record of the family. The genus Palerasnitsynusgen. n. differs from all other known psychomyiid genera by the absence of fork III in the forewings.

A malformed embryonic or neonate choristoderan reptile from the Lower Cretaceous Yixian Formation of northeastern China is described. The tiny skeleton exhibits two heads and two necks, with bifurcation at the level of the pectoral girdle. In a fossil, this is the first occurrence of the malformation known as axial bifurcation, which is well known in living reptiles.
