This paper investigates non-destructive simplification, a type of syntactic text simplification which focuses on extracting embedded clauses from structurally complex sentences and rephrasing them without affecting their original meaning. This process reduces the average sentence length and complexity to make text simpler. Although relevant for human readers with low reading skills or language ...
We describe MUSST, a multilingual syntactic simplification tool. The tool supports sentence simplifications for English, Italian and Spanish, and can be easily extended to other languages. Our implementation includes a set of general-purpose simplification rules, as well as a sentence selection module (to select sentences to be simplified) and a confidence model (to select only promising simpli...
Some big languages like English are spoken by a lot of people whose mother tongues are different from. Their second languages often have not only distinct accent but also different lexical and syntactic characteristics. Speech recognition performance is severely affected when the lexical, syntactic, or semantic characteristics in the training and recognition tasks differ. Language model of a sp...
Syntactic ambiguity resolution often appears to be guided by the use of lexical constraint information (e. A traditional linguistic framework of discrete syntactic categories can complicate the modeling of such lexical constraints. There is evidence that syntactic ambiguity resolution is exposure-based, i.e. present analyses are innuenced by past experiences (e.g. Mitchell and Cuetos (1991)). A...
One characteristic of NooJ is that its corpus processing engine uses large-coverage linguistic lexical and syntactic resources. This allows NooJ users to perform sophisticated queries that include any of the available morphological, lexical or syntactic properties. In comparison with INTEX, NooJ uses a new technology (.NET), a new linguistic engine, and was designed with a new range of applicat...
The present study investigated Japanese lexical and syntactic compound verbs (V1þV2) using Shannon’s concept of entropy and redundancy calculated using corpora from the Mainichi Newspaper and a collection of selected novels. Comparing combinations of a V2 verb with various V1 verbs, syntactic compounds were higher in entropy than lexical ones while neither differed in redundancy. This result su...
The simplest proofs of the Church Rosser Property are usually done by the syntactic method of parallel reduction. On the other hand, reducibility is a semantic method which has been used to prove a number of properties in the λ-calculus and is well known to offer on one hand very general proofs which can be applied to a number of instantiations, and on the other hand, to be quite mysterious and...
A study is presented on the effects of discourse-semantic and lexical-syntactic information during spoken sentence processing. Event-related brain potentials (ERPs) were registered while subjects listened to discourses that ended in a sentence with a temporary syntactic ambiguity. The prior discourse-semantic information biased toward one analysis of the temporary ambiguity, whereas the lexical...
This paper examines and compares some legilinguistic features in news/media reports Hebrew, Arabic Israel Egypt during the COVID-19 pandemic 2020 beginning of 2021. The goal was to find frequent innovated expressions communication media period. research question was, since there are linguistic differences between these language-varieties: would be found also on level? Hebrew were studied becaus...
This paper investigates the effect of various types of linguistic features (lexical, syntactic and semantic) for training classifiers to detect threats of violence in a corpus of YouTube comments. Our results show that combinations of lexical features outperform the use of more complex syntactic and semantic features for this task.
