For a Nd:YVO4 crystal, a strong thermal lens astigmatism is observed by using a probe beam technique. By orienting the c-axis of the Nd:YVO4 crystal in the tangential plane of the ring resonator, we find the two astigmatisms introduced by the ring cavity and thermal lens can be mutually compensated. Such compensation improves the stability, beam quality, and conversion efficiency of the laser. ...

Self-sustained mechanical vibrations of a disc-type microfabricated resonator were experimentally observed when a continuous wave (CW) laser beam was focused on the periphery of the disc (for a 40 μm diameter resonator, natural frequency 0.89MHz, the laser power above a 250 W threshold was required). A theoretical model for self-oscillatory behavior has been developed based on FEM analysis of a...

We report our preliminary findings on the use of a split-ring (I) or loop-gap resonator in electron spin echo (ESE) spectroscopy at 9 GHz. The loop-gap (LG) resonator of Froncisz and Hyde (2) was reported to have several features which could make it more advantageous than the overcoupled (3) TEro2 microwave cavity traditionally used in ESE experiments (4). Among these are the large uniform micr...

Circular and Radial SIW cavity resonators are proposed to enhance the performance of SIW bandstop filter. Prior to this research work, rectangular cavity resonator was used to produce bandstop response. The design of the circular and radial SIW bandstop filters are done by directly coupling circular and radial cavity resonators to the SIW line. The SIW bandstop filters are designed to operate a...

The Q-switched Nd:YAG laser operating in a single axial mode with a Fourier-transform-limited bandwidth is a useful source for nonlinear and high-resolution spectroscopic studies. In the past, single-axial-mode operation of the Nd:YAG laser received considerable attention,' and single-mode operation of a TEMNoo-mode Q-switched oscillator has been reported.2'3 More recently, single-mode operatio...

A guided-mode-resonance device for both narrow-band retroreflection and waveguide input coupling was designed fabricated operation wavelength of 1550 nm. It consists a focusing grating coupler (FGC) integrated in cavity resonator constructed by pair distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) on reflection substrate. The size the FGC 31 × 20 μm <sup xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:...

Increasing the dimensions of a waveguide provides the simplest means of reducing detrimental nonlinear effects, but such systems are inherently multi-mode, reducing the brightness of the system. Furthermore, using rectangular dimensions allows for improved heat extraction, as well as uniform temperature profile within the core. We propose a method of using the angular acceptance of a transmitti...

A novel cavity perturbation technique using coaxial cavity ruonators for the measurement of complex permittivity of liquids is presented. The method employs two types of resonators (Resonator I and Resonator ll). Resonator l operates in the fre quency range 600 MHZ-7 CH2 and resonator ll operates in the frequency range 4 Gliz-14 CH2. The introduction of the capillary tube filled wit? the sampl...

We report a novel geometry for OPOs based on nonlinear microcavity resonators. This approach relies on a self-locked scheme that enables OPO emission without the need for thermal locking of the pump laser to the microcavity resonance. By exploiting a CMOS-compatible microring resonator, we achieve oscillation featured by a complete absence of "shutting down", i.e. the self-terminating behavior ...
