To be applicable to complex aerodynamic flows at realistic Reynolds numbers, large eddy simulation (LES) must be combined with a model for the inner part of the boundary layer. Aerodynamic flows are, in general, very sensitive to the location of boundary layer transition. While traditional LES can predict the transition location and process accurately, existing wall-modeled LES approaches can n...

We investigate the capability of neural network-based model order reduction, i.e., autoencoder (AE), for fluid flows. As an example model, AE which comprises a convolutional network and multi-layer perceptrons is considered in this study. The assessed with four canonical flows, namely: (1) two-dimensional cylinder wake, (2) its transient process, (3) NOAA sea surface temperature, (4) $y-z$ sect...

This paper focuses on the validation of a new all-speed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) code called LociSTREAM. This computational package is not just another CFD solver; rather, it integrates proven numerical methods and state-of-the-art physical models to compute all-speed flows using generalized grids in a novel rule-based programming framework called Loci which allows: (a) seamless integ...

A detection method based on sensitization of a squared double differentiated signal is developed which discriminates the turbulent zones from laminar zones quite accurately. The procedure adopts a variable threshold and a variable hold time of the order of the Kolmogorov time scale. The output file so generated, includes all the information for further analysis of the turbulent signal.

when flow passes over the tube bundles, energy of flow transfers to the tubes. the fluid induced vibrations (fiv) imposed on the tubes is one of the important problems in analyzing the tube bundles and causes several problems. in this work, first, laminar flow around circular cylinder asymmetrically in a channel is simulated. the reynolds number is 20 and 100. the lift forces to tube are not ze...

While much of the hemodynamics in a healthy human body has low Reynolds number, resulting in laminar flow, relatively high Reynolds number flow is observed at some specific locations, which can cause transition to turbulence. (The term “turbulence” refers to the motion of a fluid having local velocities and pressures that fluctuate randomly.) For example, the peak Reynolds number in the human a...
