BACKGROUND Pterodon pubescens Benth seeds are commercially available in the Brazilian medicinal plant street market. The crude alcoholic extracts of this plant are used in folk medicine as anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and anti-rheumatic preparations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the contribution of geranylgeraniol (C1) and 6alpha, 7beta-dihydroxyvouacapan-17beta-oate methyl ester (C2)...

Tipuana tipu (Benth.) Kuntze is a tree from the leguminosae family (Papilionoideae) indigenous in Argentina and extensively used in urbanism, mainly in Southern Brazil. The epicuticular waxes of leaves and branch, and flower surface were studied by high temperature high resolution gas chromatography. Several compounds were characterized, among which the aliphatic alcohols were predominant in br...

BACKGROUND Albizzia Lebbeck Benth. is traditionally important plant and is reported to possess a variety of pharmacological actions. The present research exertion was undertaken to isolate and characterized the flavonoids from the extract of stem bark of Albizzia Lebbeck Benth. and to evaluate the efficacy of the isolated flavonoids on in-vitro models of type-II diabetes. Furthermore, the resul...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS To date, the structure of the nectary spur of Aeridinae has not been studied in detail, and data relating to the nectaries of ornithophilous orchids remain scarce. The present paper compares the structural organization of the floral nectary in a range of Aeridinae species, including both entomophilous and ornithophilous taxa. METHODS Nectary spurs of Ascocentrum ampullaceu...

Arabidopsis pumila is an ephemeral plant, and a close relative of the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, but it possesses higher photosynthetic efficiency, higher propagation rate, and higher salinity tolerance compared to those A. thaliana, thus providing a candidate plant system for gene mining for environmental adaption and salt tolerance. However, A. pumila is an under-explored resource for ...

The composition of Malus pumila Mill. cutin from cuticles isolated using ZnCl(2)-HCl reagent has been compared to that isolated by an oxalate-enzymic method. Molecular changes were observed and included the loss of unsaturated components and hydroxyl groups. Such changes may alter the results of physiochemical investigations of cuticles.

Pectin extracted from the apple pomace was evaluated for the in vitro inhibition of pancreatic lipase (steapsin). Pectin was extracted from two different varieties of apples, i.e., Malus pumila and Spondias dulcis using two extractants, i.e., hydrochloric acid and citric acid (CA), separately at pH 2.5.
