We address the issue of clustering of video images. We assume that video clips have been segmented into shots which are further represented by a set of keyframes. Video clustering is thus reduced to a clustering of still keyframe images. Experiments with 8 human subjects reveal that humans tend to use semantic meanings while grouping a set of images. A complete-link dendrogram constructed from ...

In this paper we describe K-Space participation in TRECVid 2007. K-Space participated in two tasks, highlevel feature extraction and interactive search. We present our approaches for each of these activities and provide a brief analysis of our results. Our high-level feature submission utilized multi-modal low-level features which included visual, audio and temporal elements. Specific concept d...

While the most accurate solution to off-line Structure from Motion (SFM) problems is undoubtedly to extract as much correspondence information as possible and perform batch optimisation, sequential methods suitable for live video streams must approximate this to fit within fixed computational bounds. Two quite different approaches to real-time SFM — also called visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localis...

For TRECVID 2008 concept detection task, we principally focus on: (1) Early fusion of texture, edge and color features TECM, abbreviation of the combined TF*IDF weights based on SIFT features, Edge Histogram, and Color Moments. (2) To improve the training efficiency and explore the knowledge between concepts or hidden sub-domains more easily and efficiently, we propose a novel method based on L...

This paper presents a concept and first experiments on a keyframe-based incremental bundle adjustment for real-time structure and motion estimation in an unknown scene. In order to avoid periodic batch steps, we use the software iSAM2 for sparse nonlinear incremental optimization, which is highly efficient through incremental variable reordering and fluid relinearization. We adapted the softwar...

e o A technique for limiting the knot slopes of hermite cubic splines in order to eliminat vershoot is proposed. It is proven that constraining each knot’s slope to lie between 0 and l three times the slope to the knot on either side forces all extrema to occur at knots. This al ows overshoot to be eliminated without sacrificing slope continuity. The technique has appli1 cations in keyframe int...

This paper describes the experimental framework of the University of Queensland’s Multimedia Search Group (UQMSG) at TRECVID 2011. We participated in two tasks this year, both for the first time. For the semantic indexing task, we submitted four lite runs: L A UQMSG1 1, L A UQMSG2 2, L A UQMSG3 3 and L A UQMSG4 4. They are all of training type A (actually we only used IACC.1.tv10.training data)...

This paper reports our experiments for TRECVID 2010 task: Semantic Indexing. We present two approaches namely, Affective and Holistic. In the first approach, we have used combination of affective features from image, video and audio trained with neural network algorithm. Image features employed are color histogram and face detection from the keyframe. The number of face is also used in one of t...

We present physically based algorithms for interactive deformable shape and motion modeling. We coarsely sample the objects with simulation nodes, and apply a meshless finite element method to obtain realistic deformations at interactive frame rates. This shape deformation algorithm is then used to specify keyframe poses and a smooth interpolating motion is obtained by solving for an energy-min...
