Phosphatidyl inositol and a cardiolipin-like phospholipid survive the autolysis which is induced in yeast by treating it with toluene, whereas other phospholipids are extensively degraded. Lipid from autolyzed yeast was suspended in isopropanol to extract lecithin and neutral lipid. The insoluble phosphatidyl inositol and cardiolipin were then separated by chromatography on silicic acid.

N,N'-Dibenzyl diketiminate copper isopropanolate, (nacnac(Bn)CuOiPr)(2), polymerizes rac- and S,S-lactide in the presence or absence of isopropanol as a chain-transfer reagent with very high activity (k(2) = 32 M(-1) s(-1)), narrow polydispersities and without evidence of side reactions such as transesterification, epimerization or catalyst decomposition.

Porous manganese oxide spheres form readily from a reaction between KMnO4 and n-butanol in aqueous butyric acid under ambient conditions. Spheres have uniform size, tuneable diameters and high surface areas. The material is an active catalyst for the oxidation of isopropanol to acetone.

A novel non-noble Co@C-N catalytic system has been developed for catalytic transfer hydrogenation reactions. Co@C-N was found to be highly active and selective in the hydrogenation of a variety of unsaturated bonds with isopropanol in the absence of base additives.

Simian immunodeficiency virus matrix protein has been crystallized from Tris-HCl buffer with polyethylene glycol and isopropanol as precipitants. The crystals belong to space group C2 with unit cell dimensions a = 69.9 A, b = 115.2 A, c = 32.5 A, beta = 108.1 degrees and diffract X rays to a minimum Bragg spacing of 2 A. These crystals appear suitable for a high resolution structure analysis.

An efficient, mild, and generally applicable protocol for copper-mediated oxidative decarboxylative coupling of arylpropiolic acids with dialkyl H-phosphonates in water has been developed. Note that the reaction could proceed smoothly under air at relatively low temperature (60 °C), and the addition of isopropanol could successfully suppress the decomposition of dialkyl H-phosphonates in water.

A protocol for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling of heteroaryl boronic acids and vinyl chlorides that minimizes protodeboronation is described. A combination of catalytic amounts of Pd(OAc)(2) and SPhos in conjunction with CsF in isopropanol effectively affords a variety of coupled products. Surprisingly, a dramatic temperature dependence in product selectivity was observed.
