OBJECTIVE Clear corneal cataract incisions without sutures allow for rapid visual rehabilitation after phacoemulsification but might be associated with an increased risk of postoperative infection. The goal of this study was to examine in vitro dynamic changes in unhealed clear corneal cataract incisions that might adversely affect the risk of intraocular infection. DESIGN Laboratory investig...

Ocular immune privilege (IP) limits the immune surveillance of intraocular tumors as certain immunogenic tumor cell lines (P815, E.G7-OVA) that are rejected when transplanted in the skin grow progressively when placed in the anterior chamber of the eye. As splenectomy (SPLNX) is known to terminate ocular IP, we characterized the immune mechanisms responsible for rejection of intraocular tumors ...

A healthy 34-year-old man presented with Ochrobactrum intermedium endophthalmitis due to a metallic intraocular foreign body. After vitrectomy, lensectomy, removal of the metallic intraocular foreign body, intravitreal vancomycin and ceftazidime, and systemic ciprofloxacin, intraocular inflammation worsened. Repeat vitreous culture confirmed persistent endophthalmitis due to multidrug-resistant...

A uveal leiomyosarcoma of a horse is reported. There are few published reports of intraocular tumors in horses. Intraocular tumors challenge animal welfare by causing uveitis, glaucoma, and loss of vision. Knowledge regarding treatment of intraocular tumors with globe preservation is sparse, and further investigations on this topic are required.

Intravenous lignocaine (1.5 mg kg-1) was evaluated in patients undergoing intraocular surgery as a means of preventing the rise in intraocular pressure which accompanies tracheal intubation. In patients given either suxamethonium or pancuronium to facilitate tracheal intubation, lignocaine pretreatment conferred no benefit over placebo in preventing the intraocular hypertensive response.

Background/aims—Mechanical forces are thought to induce cellular responses through activation of signalling pathways. Cells within the intraocular environment are exposed to constant changes in the levels of intraocular pressure. In this study, an attempt was made to determine the acute eVects of elevated hydrostatic pressure on diVerent intraocular cells

The exact function of the sympathetic nervous system in the regulation of intraocular pressure remains unclear. Many observers have noted reduced intraocular pressure in eyes whose sympathetic supply has been interrupted. A case of ocular sympathetic denervation associated with ocular hypertension is reported. Reports on the relationship between intraocular pressure and sympathetic denervation ...

The relationship between homocysteine levels and glaucoma has been questioned in previous studies without conclusive results. In the current study, we assessed the relationship between homocysteine levels and intraocular pressure which is one of the main factors in the development of glaucoma in men and women.A retrospective cross-sectional analysis of a database from a screening center in Isra...

The effects of etomidate and thiopentone on intraocular pressure were studied in 50 patients of either sex undergoing routine non-ophthalmic surgery. Both drugs decreased intraocular pressure significantly. However, etomidate induced a significantly greater decrease in intraocular pressure than did thiopentone.

Method: Cataract surgery was performed after controlling the intraocular pressure in patients presenting with acute phacomorphic glaucoma. Intraocular lenses were inserted in the bag after conventional extracapsular cataract extraction. Patients with minimum follow up of one year were analyzed for the study. Corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure and any complications of surgery were rec...
