In this hospital-based, multicenter case-control study we investigated the prevalence of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related markers and HBV/hepatitis C virus (HCV) co-infection among B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL) cases and controls. Four hundred newly diagnosed B-NHL cases and 392 controls from other departments of the same hospitals were studied. The prevalence of positivity for hepatitis...

Background and Aim: HBV (hepatitis B virus), HCV (hepatitis C virus) and HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) are among important infectious agents in prisoners. Intravenous addicts in prisons are one of the high risk groups and are more susceptible to such viral infections. There are many reports suggesting that prevalence of HBV, HCV and HIV is higher in prisoners. The present study was carried...

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) reactivation in patients with resolved HBV infection was found in 23 (4%) of 552 newly hepatitis B surface antigen-positive patients in Japan. Because one-fourth of cases develop into fulminant hepatic failure and mortality is 100%, management of HBV reactivation in patients with resolved HBV infection should be discussed.

This study was carried out to determine sero-prevalence of hepatitis B and hepatitis C virus co-infection among pregnant women. Viral hepatitis during pregnancy is associated with high risk of maternal complications; infections with Hepatitis B virus (HBV) or the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) are public health problems. Worldwide, there are about 350 million HBV carriers and 130 to 170 million people...

The average estimated carrier rate of hepatitis B virus (HBV) in India is 4%, with a total pool of approximately 36 million carriers. Wide variations in social, economic, and health factors in different regions may explain variations in carrier rates from one part of the country to another. Professional blood donors constitute the major high risk group for HBV infection in India, with a hepatit...

abstract mutations have been described in all of the four open reading frames of the hepatitis b virus (hbv), however, from a clinical perspective the surface escape mutant is the most troublesome. hepatitis b surface antigen (hbsag) variants may impair diagnosis, or allow the virus to escape vaccine-induced immunity or passive immunoglobulin therapy. hbv mutants with amino acid substitutions, ...

Historically, hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been considered species specific and unable to infect baboons. Based on this premise, two patients with HBV endstage liver disease underwent baboon liver xenotransplantation. To study whether baboons are susceptible to HBV infection, four baboons (two receiving immunosuppressive therapy) were inoculated with HBV. Animals were followed for 6 months: clin...
