The kinetics of activation of RX by a Cu(I) complex has been investigated in MeCN both in the absence and presence of halide ions. The system Cu(I)/L/X(-) (L = Me(6)TREN) is mainly composed of Cu(I)L(+), XCu(I)L and Cu(I)X(2)(-), but only Cu(I)L(+) is found to be an active catalyst reacting with RX.
Two types of hypertensin have been demonstrated by means of counter-current distribution. The first type is the product of the action of the enzyme, renin, upon its substrate and has been designated hypertensin I. It can be rapidly converted to a second approximately equally pressor compound, hypertensin II, apparently through the action of an enzyme in the plasma which requires halide or nitra...
The adsorption characteristics of riboflavin onto silver-deposited iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles (Ag/Fe3O4) have been described. Characterization of the synthesized Ag/Fe3O4 nanoparticles was achieved by FTIR spectra, TEM image and XRD pattern. The influence of several experimental parameters such as nanoparticles dosage, pH of the sample solution...
The application of molecular modelling and quantum-chemistry calculations for the 'computational site-directed mutagenesis' of haloalkane dehalogenase is described here. The exhaustive set of single point mutants of haloalkane dehalogenase in position 172 was constructed by homology modelling. The ability of substituting residues to stabilize the halide ion formed during the dehalogenation reac...
Myeloperoxidase, released by activated phagocytes, forms reactive oxidants by catalysing the reaction of halide and pseudo-halide ions with H(2)O(2). These oxidants have been linked to tissue damage in a range of inflammatory diseases. With physiological levels of halide and pseudo-halide ions, similar amounts of HOCl (hypochlorous acid) and HOSCN (hypothiocyanous acid) are produced by myeloper...
BACKGROUND Previous studies suggest that elevated exposure to drinking water disinfection by-products (DBPs)--in particular, total trihalomethanes (TTHMs)--may lead to fetal growth restriction. We examined the effects of exposure to TTHMs, haloacetic acids, and total organic halide on the probability of delivering a small-for-gestational-age (SGA) infant and on birth weight at term. METHODS W...
A series of oxoperoxovanadium(V) complexes (ligands: H3nta ) nitrilotriacetic acid, H3heida ) N-(2hydroxyethyl)iminodiacetic acid, H2ada ) N-(2-amidomethyl)iminodiacetic acid, Hbpg ) N,N-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)glycine, and tpa ) N,N,N-tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine) were characterized as functional models for the vanadium haloperoxidase enzymes. The crystal structures of K[VO(O2)Hheida], K[VO(O2)ada],...
The kinetics of chloride and bromide transport were examined in intact human red blood cells and resealed ghosts. Because the influx and efflux of halide ions are almost equal (less than 0.01% difference), the stimulation of the exchange flux by external halides could be determined by measuring 36Cl or 82Br efflux. When the external halide concentration was increased by replacement of isoionic,...
