English language teaching (ELT) writing practitioners have long attempted to improve EFL/ESL learners’ competence in writing with recourse to either instruction or feedback. Likewise, researchers have, to date, mainly focused on either of these treatments to enhance language learners’ composing ability. Research in automatic genre classification has been producing increasingly small performance gains in recent years, with the result that some have suggested that such research should be abandoned in favor of more general similarity research. It has been further argued that genre classification is of limited utility as a goal in itself because of the ambiguities and subjectivity inherent to genr...

We investigate the uses and limitations of MFCC analysis for feature extraction from music files in the domain of genre recognition. Intra-genre and Inter-genre classification is explored. We implement a method of genre classification based on MFCC extraction, K-means clustering, and KNN analysis. We demonstrate the efficacy of our method through testing, yielding a 99% accuracy rate.

Modern search engines are typically queried with keywords, which foremostly convey the topic of the sought web page. The availability of semantically enriched data in repositories of larger content providers offers a means for new ways of multimedia presentation authoring. Existing (semi-)automatic content composition environments explore limited numbers of genres and concentrate on templatebased approaches for composing discourse structures for these genres. We analyze a number of genres based on identifiabl...

Music genre classification is a challenging research concept, for which open questions remain regarding classification approach, music piece representation, distances between/within genres, and so on. In this paper an investigation on the classification of generated music pieces is performed, based on the idea that grouping close related known pieces in different sets -or clusters- and then gen...

This paper presents a novel approach to the task of automatic music genre classification which is based on ensemble learning. Feature vectors are extracted from three 30-second music segments from the beginning, middle and end of each music piece. Individual classifiers are trained to account for each music segment. During classification, the output provided by each classifier is combined with ...
