In this paper, an H-Galerkin mixed finite element method is discussed for the coupled Burgers equations. The optimal error estimates of the semi-discrete and fully discrete schemes of the coupled Burgers equation are derived. Keywords—The coupled Burgers equation; H-Galerkin mixed finite element method; Backward Euler’s method; Optimal error estimates.
It is shown that for a broad class of equations that numerical solutions computed using the discontinuous Galerkin or the continuous Galerkin time stepping schemes of arbitrary order will inherit the compactness properties of the underlying equation. Convergence of numerical schemes for a phase field approximation of the flow of two fluids with surface tension is presented to illustrate these r...
In this paper we show that the Wavelet-Galerkin method is a very effective tool in numerically solving contaminant transport equation. The approach is applied to a number of examples and numerical results are given. The numerical results demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of using the Wavelet-Galerkin method to solve such problems.
Abstract. In this paper, we consider anisotropic diffusion with decay, which takes the form α(x)c(x) − div[D(x)grad[c(x)]] = f(x) with decay coefficient α(x) ≥ 0, and diffusivity coefficient D(x) to be a second-order symmetric and positive definite tensor. It is well-known that this particular equation is a second-order elliptic equation, and satisfies a maximum principle under certain regulari...
Meshfree methods have been formulated based on Galerkin type weak formulation and collocation type strong formulation. The approximation functions commonly used in the Galerkin based meshfree methods are the moving least-squares (MLS) and reproducing kernel (RK) approximations, while the radial basis functions (RBFs) are usually employed in the strong form collocation method. Galerkin type form...
Nonlinear Galerkin methods utilize approximate inertial manifolds to reduce the spatial error of the standard Galerkin method. For certain scenarios, where a rough forcing term is used, a simple postprocessing step yields the same improvements that can be observed with nonlinear Galerkin. We show that this improvement is mainly due to the information about the forcing term that is neglected by ...
In recent years, there have been extensive efforts to find the numerical methods for solving problems with interface. The main idea of this work is to introduce an efficient truly meshless method based on the weak form for interface problems. The proposed method combines the direct meshless local Petrov–Galerkin method with the visibility criterion technique to solve the interface problems. It ...
A Schwarz-type domain decomposition method is presented for the solution of the system of 3d time-harmonic Maxwell equations. We introduce a hybridizable discontinuous Galerkin (HDG) scheme for the discretization of the problem based on a tetrahedrization of the computational domain. The discrete system of the HDG method on each subdomain is solved by an optimized sparse direct (LU factorizatio...
There are few techniques available to numerically solve contaminant transport equation. In this paper we show that the Sinc-Galerkin method is a very effective tool in numerically solving contaminant transport equation. The numerical results demonstrate the reliability and efficiency of using the Sinc-Galerkin method to solve such problems.
We present optimal error estimates for spectral Petrov–Galerkin methods and spectral collocation methods for linear fractional ordinary differential equations with initial value on a finite interval. We also develop Laguerre spectral Petrov–Galerkin methods and collocation methods for fractional equations on the half line. Numerical results confirm the error estimates.
