The rise of the periphrastic future (PF) at the expense of the inflected future (IF) is an established historical trend in Québécois French over at least the past 150 years. Previous research has also found higher rates of PF among younger speakers, many displaying categorical use in affirmative contexts. Because an apparent time interpretation of the synchronic data fits the historical record,...

Acyclic orientations with exactly one source and one sink ~ the so-called bipolar orientations _ arise in many graph algorithms and specially in graph drawing. The fundamental properties of these orientations are explored in terms of circuits, cocircuits and also in terms of “angles” in the planar case. Classical results get here new simple proofs; new results concern the extension of partial o...

Unique-sink orientations (USOs) are an abstract class of orientations of the ncube graph. We consider some classes of USOs that are of interest in connection with the linear complementarity problem. We summarise old and show new lower and upper bounds on the sizes of some such classes. Furthermore, we provide a characterisation of K-matrices in terms of their corresponding USOs.

We study graph orientations that minimize the entropy of the in-degree sequence. The problem of finding such an orientation is an interesting special case of the minimum entropy set cover problem previously studied by Halperin and Karp (Theoret. Comput. Sci., 2005) and by the current authors (Algorithmica, to appear). We prove that the minimum entropy orientation problem is NP-hard even if the ...

Visual attention has long been known to be drawn to stimuli that are physically salient or congruent with task-specific goals. Several recent studies have shown that attention is also captured by stimuli that are neither salient nor task-relevant, but that are rendered in a color that has previously been associated with reward. We investigated whether another feature dimension-orientation-can b...

Long Island glacigenic surface deposits, where exposed, are ideal for geologic field studies of Pleistocene glacial settings. Numerous outcrop exposures, found scattered throughout the island, delineate many of the deposit types associated with a full spectrum of glacial facies currently observable at active continental ice sheet margins. By directly field sampling axial orientations of a numbe...

Classroom climate has been demonstrated to associate with individuals’ various attributes and outcomes. Recent research has also confirmed students’ goal orientations deserving to be recognized as a significant achievement-related outcome. In this line, the current study intended to examine the relationship between Iranian EFL students’ perceptions of their classroom environment and their achie...

Introduction: Curriculum orientations are effective in curriculum success and failure. This study aimed to investigate faculties’ curriculum orientations based on gender, academic level and teaching approaches. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive research was conducted in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in 2011. The research population included the faculty of Mashhad University of...

Prototyping future Internet technologies is an important but complicated task, mainly caused by incompatibilities to existing systems and high implementation complexity. To reduce these problems, we have developed the Future Internet Toolbox (FIT), consisting of four frameworks that cover data transport, information-centric networking, naming, and name resolution. These frameworks can be used s...

Prototyping future Internet technologies is an important but complicated task. To ease this process, we have developed the Future Internet Toolbox (FIT). In this paper, we demonstrate how it facilitates prototyping in practice by presenting three scenarios that have been implemented using FIT.
