We investigate the self-focusing dynamics of super-Gaussian optical beams in a Kerr medium. We find that up to several times the critical power for self-focusing, super-Gaussian beams evolve towards a Townes profile. At higher powers the super-Gaussian beams form rings which break into filaments as a result of noise. Our results are consistent with the observed self-focusing dynamics of femtose...

The propagation of intense laser pulses and the generation of high energy electrons from the underdense plasmas are investigated using two dimensional particlein-cell simulations. When the ratio of the laser power and a critical power of relativistic self-focusing is the optimal value, it propagates stably and electrons have maximum energies.

The proposed PLSN specifically targets the use of passive sensing techniques, focusing on monitoring and predicting the real-time dynamic capacity of a specific span of a power line under present weather conditions by using computational intelligence technologies. An ancillary function is to detect the presence of incipient failures along overhead power lines via monitoring and characterizing t...

Robust synchronization (phase locking) of power plants and consumers centrally underlies the stable operation of electric power grids. Despite current attempts to control large-scale networks, even their uncontrolled collective dynamics is not fully understood. Here we analyze conditions enabling self-organized synchronization in oscillator networks that serve as coarse-scale models for power g...

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...

In this Letter we introduce a systematic perturbation method for analyzing the e ect of small perturbations on critical self focusing by reducing the perturbed critical nonlinear Schrodinger equation (PNLS) to a simpler system of modulation equations that do not depend on the transverse variables. The modulation equations can be further simpli ed, depending on whether PNLS is power conserving ...

We analyze the method of moving focus to determine the critical power for self-focusing by means of numerical simulation and a semianalytical model. It is shown that the original interpretation of a moving focus experiment does not hold in general and that inclusion of defocusing effects due to free electrons is necessary to relate the measured data to critical power.

We study photon-pair generation in arrays of cubic nonlinear waveguides through spontaneous four-wave mixing. We analyze numerically the quantum statistics of photon pairs at the array output as a function of waveguide dispersion and pump beam power. We show flexible spatial quantum state control such as pump-power-controlled transition between bunching and anti-bunching correlations due to non...

Quasi-optical power combining techniques have been developed to address fundamental limitations in solid-state devices and circuits. These techniques have been applied to oscillators, amplifiers, frequencyconversion components, and control circuits. This paper surveys progress in the development of quasi-optical array systems operating in the microwave and millimeterwave regime, focusing primar...

We report on power handling oriented design of kagome lattice hollow-core fiber and demonstrate through it for the first time nanosecond laser pulses induced spark ignition in a friendly manner. Two different core designs and transmission bands are investigated and evaluated. The energy threshold damage was measured to be in excess of the 10 mJ level and the output power density is approaching ...
