The presence of valley networks and open-basin lakes in the late Noachian is cited as evidence for overland flow of liquid water and thus a climate on early Mars that might have supported precipitation and runoff. Outstanding questions center on the nature of such a climate, its duration and variability, and its cause. Open basin lakes, their interior morphology, and their associated channels p...

Degraded craters on Mars record the cumulative ffects of the complex interplay between erosion, transport and deposition by competing intermittent processes. Fommately, impact craters are instantaneous landforms common to both the Earth and Mars that are characterized by similar topography and local lithofacies. Deconvolving the signatures of individual degradation processes around young crater...

The identification of the factors triggering continental environmental changes at Permian–Triassic transition is general interest as they allow a better understanding most controversial mass extinction Phanerozoic. This study investigates response to external forcings on successions south-east-margin Central European Basin System in Germany. Studies from this area are scarce, and its evolution ...

The African rainforest is considered a ‘palaeontological desert’, exemplified with the virtual absence of ape fossils from last 10 Ma. To overcome this deficiency fossil record, archaeo-palaeontological surveys have been undertaken in Equatorial Guinea. We inventoried 225 outcrops and eluvial materials formation ‘stone lines’ (of diverse genesis) predominate. Close to Atlantic estuaries, there ...

This study presents the first detailed description of upper sedimentary succession late Pleistocene and Holocene deposits in Gulf San Jorge (Patagonia) based on several hundred kilometers high-resolution seismic (sparker) profiles numerous sediment cores. High-resolution stratigraphy confirms existence a paleo-fluvial network formed during sea-level lowstands buried by central basin estuarine l...

River channels and valleys have been observed on several planetary bodies in addition to the Earth. Long sinuous valleys on Venus, our Moon and Jupiter's moon Io are clearly formed by lava, and branching valleys on Saturn's moon Titan may be forming today by rivers of methane. But by far the most dissected body in our Solar System apart from the Earth is Mars. Branching valleys that in plan res...

The study presents three sedimentary profiles from Tarimba cave in central Brazil. data allow constraining the late Quaternary evolution of systems region. A multi-techniques approach was used to characterize sediment texture (grain size and circularity index), mineralogical composition (X-Ray Diffraction), chemical (ICP-OES) deposition ages (Optically Stimulated Luminescence radiocarbon). Eigh...

Floods rarely occur in hyper-arid deserts and little is known about the magnitude frequency of sediment delivery from their basins, despite importance to changes landscape, infrastructures engineering activities. Sediment yield Nahal Nehushtan watershed (11.9 km2) located Timna Valley southern Israel was determined by assessing stratigraphic sections its 60-year reservoir deposits. Stratigraphi...
