In this present study, the bark extracts of Erythrina variegate were subjected to evaluate of the thrombolytic activity, which was assessed by using human erythrocyte and the results were compared with standard streptokinase (SK). The methanol extract showed 72.14 ± 3.77 % clot lysis as compared to 78.42 ± 1.6 % clot lysis produced by standard streptokinase.

Fibrinolytic activity and serum antifibrinolysin were estimated in normal pregnant women, during and after labour. The decreased fibrinolytic activity found during labour returned to non-pregnant levels within 24 hours of delivery. During the same period, the serum antifibrinolysin was rapidly diminished. It is suggested that the post-partum increase in fibrinolytic activity to non-pregnant lev...

This study was to isolate, screen, and identify microorganisms from fermented food Red Oncom and Tempeh Gembus that can produce fibrinolytic proteases. Forthy-three isolates showed proteolytic activities on skim milk agar, while thirthy-eight of them showed fibrinolytic activities both on a fibrin plate and a fibrinogen zymography. The isolates that showed activity in fibrin plate and fibrinoge...

Evidence-based medicine has emerged as a valuable tool to guide clinical decision-making, by summarizing the best possible evidence for both diagnostic and treatment strategies. Imaging plays a critical role in the evaluation and treatment of patients with acute ischemic stroke, especially those who are being considered for thrombolytic or endovascular therapy. Time from stroke-symptom onset to...

Neonatal thromboembolic events are rare, and only a few cases of intrauterine spontaneous arterial thromboembolisms have been reported in the literature. Thrombolytic therapy with recombinant tissue plasminogen activator is usually the preferred treatment because it has a short half-life, fewer systemic side effects, and a strong, specific affinity for fibrin. Protocols vary from center to cent...

BACKGROUND Recent guidelines recommend that patients with obvious acute myocardial infarction receive thrombolysis, unless contraindicated, within 60-90 minutes of summoning assistance. If this target is to be achieved, an increasing number of general practitioners are likely to be involved in the administration of thrombolytic agents. AIM This study aimed to assess the practicality and safet...

Pseudo-Pseudo-Myocardial Infarction To the Editor: Hung and colleagues1 present a very important example of a pseudo-infarction pattern presumably related to pancreatitis, one of several clinical situations in which thrombolytic therapy is either not indicated or contraindicated. I am intrigued by the pattern of the bizarre T waves in the limb leads and wonder if part or all of this phenomenon ...

The UK Government has made improvements in cardiac care a high priority. The publication in 2000 of the National Service Framework for Coronary Heart Disease and the NHS Plan set out national standards for the management of suspected heart attack, including challenging targets for reducing treatment delays for administration of thrombolytic therapy. This paper discusses the background, evidence...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Hemodialysis catheters are frequently complicated by dysfunction from fibrin sheaths. Previous studies of sheath disruption have methodologic limitations but suggest that the patency after disruption is short. DESIGN, SETTING, PARTICIPANTS, & MEASUREMENTS A randomized, controlled, pilot trial was conducted to investigate the impact of angioplasty sheath disruption on...

The use of local anesthesia combined with general anesthesia to provide effective perioperative analgesia continues to increase in the pediatric population. Although neurological complications resulting from peridural hemorrhage following placement of neuraxial blockade is extremely rare in the absence of co-morbid conditions, the consequences can be devastating. Therefore, caution should be ex...
