The thermal screening unit is an instrument specifically designed for the fast and efficient hazard screening of liquids, solids and heterogeneous systems. The unit provides an alternative device to DSC and DTA for use in hazard assessment and provides information regarding reaction “onset temperatures”, rates of temperature rise as well as crucial information regarding the rates and magnitudes...

A hybrid multiscale kinetic Monte Carlo (HMKMC) method for speeding up the simulation of copper electrodeposition is presented. The fast diffusion events are simulated deterministically with a heterogeneous diffusion model which considers site-blocking effects of additives. Chemical reactions are simulated by an accelerated (tau-leaping) method for discrete stochastic simulation which adaptivel...

Chemical kinetic systems are modeled by dissipative ordinary differential equations involving multiple time scales. These lead to a phase flow generating anisotropic volume contraction. Kinetic model reduction methods generally exploit time scale separation into fast and slow modes, which leads to the occurrence of low-dimensional slow invariant manifolds. The aim of this paper is to review and...

Intense laser emission has been observed from the KrF molecule formed by a chemical reaction initiated by fast-discharge circuitry. With a gas mixture of He:Kr:NF, = 500:50:1 and a sample pressure of 700 Torr, an output energy of 0. 8 mj was measured from a 25-nsec laser pulse (FWHM). Spectral analysis of the laser emission indicated laser action at 248.5 and 249.5 nm.

An ultra-fast chemical reaction can act as an impulsive excitation of the vibrations. Excited state intramolecular proton transfer in 10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline proceeds in 13 fs. As a result, product vibrational modes with their periods longer than (13 x 2) fs are coherently excited in the product potential surface, which can be observed most unambiguously by the oscillations in the time-reso...

We report on a discovery of fast cathode materials, ternary Chevrel phases (CPs), CuyMo6S8, for rechargeable magnesium batteries; the related electrochemical process displays a unique coupling between reversible Mg insertion, and Cu extrusion/ reinsertion; this coupling results in an entirely new intercalation mechanism which combines the total chemical reversibility of the electrochemical reac...

Surface functionalization of hydroxyapatite (HA) and beta-tricalcium phosphate (TCP) bioceramics with chemical ligands containing a pyrrogallol moiety was developed to improve the adhesion of bone cell precursors to the biomaterials. Fast and biocompatible copper-free click reaction with azido-modified human fetal osteoblasts resulted in improved cell binding to both HA and TCP bioceramics, ope...

We have developed a novel laboratory instrument for studying gas phase, anion-neutral chemistry. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such apparatus which uses fast merged beams to investigate anion-neutral chemical reactions. As proof-of-principle we have detected the associative detachment reaction H(-)+H-->H(2)+e(-). Here we describe the apparatus in detail and discuss related tec...

Graph-theoretical methods have revolutionized the exploration of complex systems across scientific disciplines. Here, we demonstrate their applicability to investigation and comparison three widely used atmospheric chemical mechanisms varying complexity: Master Chemical Mechanism v3.3, GEOS-Chem v12.6, Super-Fast mechanism. We investigate these using a class graphical models known as species-re...
