Using density functional theory (DFT) methods, we have investigated two possible mechanisms for atmospheric CO(2) fixation in the cavity of the dinuclear zinc(II) octa-azacryptate, and the subsequent reaction with methanol whereby this latter reaction transforms the (essentially) chemically inert CO(2) into useful products. The first mechanism (I) was proposed by Chen et al. [Chem.-Asian J. 200...

1·Eu·BPS was developed as a luminescent lanthanide sensor for use in displacement assays for detection of d-metal ions by monitoring the changes in the europium emission, which was quenched for iron(II), with a detection limit of ∼10 pM (0.002 μg L(-1)) for Fe(II) in buffered pH 7.4 solution.

The formation of self-assembly complexes between the ligands 1 (SS) and 2 (RR) and terbium or europium was undertaken and shown (using various spectroscopic titrations) to give rise to the exclusive formation of 2:1 (L:Ln) stoichiometry and not the anticipated 3:1 stoichiometry.

The vibrational spectra (Raman, photoacoustic and Fourier transform infrared and inelastic neutron scattering) of the calcium, strontium and europium salts of hexahydrido- and hexadeuteridoruthenate(II) have been analyzed. All observed fundamental modes and overtone and combination bands are assigned. Density functional theory calculations of the vibrational frequencies assist in the analysis.

Fingerprint signatures of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are observed from Staphylococcus aureus nuclease (SNase), bovine serum albumin (BSA), and insulin (Ins) labeled with europium(III) complexes containing a β-diketonate ligand, where SNase shows a virtually opposite CPL sign compared to those of BSA and Ins.

We report the application of a stable cationic europium complex [Eu.1]+ in a continuous-read luminescence assay for kinase activity. [Eu.1]+ binds reversibly to ATP and ADP in water, at neutral pH, in the presence of Mg2+ ions, providing distinctive luminescence responses that permits the kinase-catalysed conversion of ATP to ADP to be monitored in real-time.

Luminescent europium and terbium complexes and a mixed Eu(III)-Tb(III) complex were prepared, each with three macrocycles coordinating to a single lanthanide ion to form a trimetallic system, and can be used for the ratiometric sensing of anions in the case of the mixed complex.

A novel europium-based hybrid material, Eu( d -facam) 3 -TMAOAc (tetramethylammonium acetate), with ultra-high luminescence, excellent circular polarization and remarkable thermostability was prepared.

An octadentate cyclen-based europium complex with amidic and hydroxyalkyl pendent moieties exhibits pH dependent ligand denticity associated with anion recognition. Unusually high hydration numbers are determined for ortho-phthalate ternary outer-sphere complexes for which modulation of lanthanide-based luminescence is observed.
