Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) are important human gastroenteritis agents. The prevalence of six non-LEE genes encoding type 3 translocated effectors was investigated. The nleC, cif and nleB genes were more prevalent in typical than in atypical EPEC, although a higher diversity of genes combinations was observed in atypical EPEC.
Here, we report the draft genome sequence of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) O146 strain isolated from a 1-year-old child with acute diarrhea in Delhi who recovered completely. The multidrug transporter (mdtABCD) gene, responsible for drug resistance, is present. The strain also contains the astA gene, an additional virulence determinant.
The enteropathogenic role of cytolethal distending toxin-producing Escherichia coli was investigated by searching sequences homologous to the cdt genes of an O86 strain among 2,074 isolates from 200 children with acute diarrhea and 200 controls in Brazil. Only one (0.5%) diarrheic child and two (1.0%) non-diarrheic controls harbored cdt-positive isolates.
Studies have been carried out to substantiate the preparation’s composition, which includes a complex of probiotic with prebiotic. It was found that synbiotic basis is hydrolyzed lignin as prebiotic concentration 0.5 -2.0%, strain L. paracasei bacterial cells 48 B CFU/g high activity and optimal biological properties, such adhesive activity, antagonistic against enteropathogenic microorganisms ...
The extraribosomal functions of ribosomal proteins have drawn significant recent attention. Ribosomal protein S3 (RPS3), a component of the eukaryotic 40S ribosomal subunit, is a multifunctional protein that regulates DNA repair, apoptosis, and the innate immune response to bacterial infection. Here we the review the latest findings about RPS3 extraribosomal functions, with special emphasis on ...
Autotransporter (AT) protein-encoding genes of diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) pathotypes (cah, eatA, ehaABCDJ, espC, espI, espP, pet, pic, sat, and tibA) were detected in typical and atypical enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) in frequencies between 0.8% and 39.3%. Although these ATs have been described in particular DEC pathotypes, their presence in EPEC indicates that they should not be co...
We previously reported that the bundle-forming pilus-mediated localized adherence of enteropathogenic Escherichia coli to HEp-2, T84, and Caco-2 cells is inhibited by N-acetyllactosamine neoglycoconjugates. The results presented here extend this observation to the epithelium of biopsy specimens obtained from the human adult duodenum, terminal ileum, and colon.

Discriminating Escherichia albertii from other Enterobacteriaceae is difficult. Systematic analyses showed that E. albertii represents a substantial portion of strains currently identified as eae-positive Escherichia coli and includes Shiga toxin 2f-producing strains. Because E. albertii possesses the eae gene, many strains might have been misidentified as enterohemorrhagic or enteropathogenic ...
Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) strains are important zoonotic enteric pathogens with the main reservoir in cattle. Here, we present the genomes of two STEC strains and one atypical enteropathogenic E. coli strain from cattle origin, obtained during a longitudinal study in German cattle herds.
