In the USA, small animal veterinary hospitals (SAVHs) commonly keep resident cats living permanently as pets within their facilities. Previously, multi-drug resistant (MDR) enterococci were found as a contaminant of multiple surfaces within such veterinary hospitals, and nosocomial infections are a concern. The objectives of this study were to determine whether resident cats carry MDR enterococ...
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to assess the in vitro activities of nemonoxacin against Gram-positive cocci with various resistance phenotypes. METHODS MICs of nemonoxacin were determined for 798 recently collected (2005-07) and non-duplicate isolates of Gram-positive cocci by the agar dilution method. These isolates included: methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA; n = 100...
infectious diseases are one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality and the spread of resistant microorganisms is playing a significant role in this regard. the purpose of this study was to assess the trend in antimicrobial resistance of gram-positive bacteria at the main referral teaching hospital in tehran during a 4-year period. all patients' biological isolates such as blood, u...
Enterococci are usually encountered and predominate in oral infections, especially those associated with dental root canal infections of necrotic pulp periodontitis. This study aimed to detect identify Enterococcus faecium isolated from infected canals, using polymerase chain reaction ( PCR). Thirty samples were collected patients pulp, endodontic treatment failure, attending the Conservative T...
The comparative in vitro activities of two new oxazolidinone antimicrobial agents, U-100592 and U-100766, against 180 isolates of enterococci representing several resistance profiles were examined by using an agar dilution technique. The two oxazolidinones inhibited all isolates, including strains resistant to vancomycin, ampicillin, and minocycline, at concentrations between 1 and 4 micrograms...
Subgingival plaque samples and root canal samples were collected from 2,839 marginal periodontitis (MP) patients and 21 apical periodontitis (AP) patients. Enterococcus species were identified by a series of phenotypic and genotypic tests. Antimicrobial susceptibility assays were performed by an agar disk diffusion test. Multilocus sequence typing (MLST), eBURST, and minimum spanning tree were ...
BACKGROUND Sewage treatment plants are considered to be the hotspots for antibiotic resistance transfer among bacterial species. Many fecal bacteria including Enterococci circulate and are exposed to antibiotic residues in this environment. Being as one of the most common cause of nosocomial infections, special concerns have risen worldwide about the rate and characteristics of Enterococci (esp...
VanA-type vancomycin-resistant enterococci isolates from bloodstream infections in Cuba were genetically characterized. Enterococcus faecalis isolates were assigned to sequence type (ST) 28, closely related to Eastern Europe, while Enterococcus faecium belonged to ST262, ST656 and ST1349, and showed different genetic profiles.
Among 48 erythromycin-resistant group D streptococci (GDS), 36 had the erm(T) resistance gene. erm(T) was also found in 4 of 31 erythromycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium isolates. This is the first report of the erm(T) gene in U.S. GDS isolates and the first report of the erm(T) gene in enterococci.
The in vitro activity of daptomycin against 337 gram-positive European clinical isolates with known resistance genes was determined. The MIC ranges for Staphylococcus aureus, enterococci, pneunococci, and streptococci were 0.03 to 1, 0.25 to 8, 0.12 to 1, and 0.06 to 8 micro g/ml, respectively. For only one streptococcus isolate and seven enterococcus isolates was the MIC 8 micro g/ml.
