Machining processes such as end milling are the main steps of production which have major effect on the quality and cost of products. Surface roughness is one of the considerable factors that production managers tend to implement in their decisions. In this study, an artificial neural network is proposed to minimize the surface roughness by tuning the conditions of machining process such as cut...

In the moulds and dies manufacturing it is important to reduce the manual polishing time after end milling processes. The polishing difficulty is related to surface topography shape and roughness values obtained in the previous end milling processes. It is interesting to develop a methodology and a test to evaluate the polishing difficulty. The aim of the present work is to establish a methodol...

Part with sculptured surfaces is obtained in three stages: roughing, semi-finishing and finishing. The roughing operation consists in using flat end tools or fillet end tools on sequential horizontal cutting planes to remove the most material from the raw part as rapidly as possible using “Parallel Planes” or “Offset Contours” machining strategy. When roughing deep parts, radial cutting forces,...

Residual stress in the end-milled subsurface can significantly affect fatigue performance of material. In end-milling process, generation residual is extremely complex, which closely related to spindle speed, feed per tooth and cutting force. Thus, it crucial elucidate influence speed on force stress, also correlation between terms tooth. According this, dry Inconel HX was performed by climb-mi...

An end milling process is widely used in fabrication of complex contours and shape parts at high spindle speeds. Many researchers try to investigate one of important aspect, which come across during machining is the self exited chatter vibration which causes severe damage of the tool and quality of the machined surface. The present work is focused on the Magneto-Rheological Damping effect on st...

This paper presents an optimization post-processing module allowing to improve and to optimize tool-tip milling operations. Moreover, this module verifies and insures milling feasibility of a complex tri-dimensional shape. During such situations, the tool is in contact with the workpiece through a point located on its ball-end mill. Knowing that a relatively large variation of the tool orientat...

Elastomer end-milling has attracted attention for use in the small-lot production of elastomeric fragments because technique is an applicable method a large variety materials and does not require preparation expensive time-consuming moulds. In order to effectively utilize elastomer end-milling, it necessary ensure machining accuracy parts machined through this technique. However, control error ...

The relationship between the cutting force characteristics and tool usage (wear) in a micro-end-milling operation was studied for two different metals. Neural-network-based usage estimation methods are proposed that use force-variationand segmental-averaging-based encoding techniques.  1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

In the present paper, roughness, force and vibration signals from ball-end milling processes are analysed. From the roughness signal actual feed value was obtained as expected. From the force and vibration signals both the frequencies of harmonics corresponding to rotation speed of the tool and impacts of teeth were detected.
