Synchrotron light sources based on Energy Recovery Linacs (ERLs) show promise to deliver X-ray beams with both brilliance and X-ray pulse duration far superior to the values that can be achieved with storage ring technology. Cornell University, in collaboration with Jefferson Laboratory, has proposed the construction of a prototype ERL. This 100MeV, 100mA CW superconducting electron accelerator...

A fast transverse instabilityhas been observed in the Los Alamos Proton Storage Ring (PSR) when the injected beam intensity reaches more than 2 10 protons per pulse. Understanding the cause and control of this instability has taken on new importance as the neutron-scattering community considers the next generation of accelerator-driven spallation-neutron sources, which call for peak proton inte...

In this paper, we present a single-shot transverse emittance measurement for 125 ± 3 MeV electron beam using pepper-pot technique. A normalised transverse emittance as low as 1.1 ± 0.1 -mm-mrad was measured using this method. Considering 60 consecutive shots, an average normalised emittance of εrms,x,y=2.2 ± 0.7, 2.3 ± 0.6 -mm-mrad was obtained, which is comparable to a conventional linear ac...

The construction of the Project for High-intensity Proton Accelerator Facility(Figure 1). in Japan has been started this year. The Japan Hadron Facility of KEK1 and the Neutron Science Project of JAERI2 merged to this project. The purpose of this Joint Project is to pursue frontier science in particle physics, nuclear physics, materials science, life science and nuclear technology. Accelerators...

Controlling the longitudinal distribution in an electron beam traveling through an accelerator can enhance system performance in various ways. Prebunching an electron beam in an accelerator can lead to enhanced radiation production from various emitters. Smoothing the shape of the electron beam pulse may suppress instabilities that result in beam breakup. This work, a collaboration between the ...

Background: This paper aimed to analyze the output constancy of a medical linear accelerator using PTW QUICKCHECKwebline and studied the sensitivity of the PTW QUICKCHECKwebline. Materials and Methods:  The paper statistically analyzed the output doses of 6 MV and 10 MV of photons and 6 MeV, 9 MeV, and 12 MeV of electrons from a medical linear accelerator measured before the daily treatment to ...

The operation logbook system of KEKB linac and ring has been developed and operated with the relational database composed of MS-SQL and MS-Access on PCs. The operator interface to the system is provided through the Web or MS-Access with Visual Basic. The operation of the logbook system started in 1995 at the linac. It was also introduced to KEKB ring and PF-AR in 2002 with a little restructurin...

The transverse properties of an electron beam are characterized by two quantities, the emittance which indicates the electron beam extent in the phase space and the angular momentum which allows for nonplanar electron trajectories. Whereas the emittance of electron beams produced in a laser-plasma accelerator has been measured in several experiments, their angular momentum has been scarcely stu...

034402-1 Low-energy, background electrons are ubiquitous in high-energy particle accelerators. Under certain conditions, interactions between this electron cloud and the high-energy beam can give rise to numerous effects that can seriously degrade the accelerator performance. These effects range from vacuum degradation to collective beam instabilities and emittance blowup. Although electron-clo...
