A randomized method aimed at evaluation of probabilistic bounds for function values is considered. Stochastic intervals tightly covering ranges of function values with probability close to one are modelled by a randomized method inspired by interval arithmetic. Statistical properties of the modelled intervals are investigated experimentally. The experimental results are discussed with respect t...

CYBERNETICS has been defined as "the control of machines by machines instead of by men" (Stanley-Jones, 1957). Its meaning embraces also the pattern of that control. A cardinal notion is the concept of feed-back. This may be simply explained by reference to the most familiar example of cybernetic control, the thermostat of an electric iron. An electric iron is a machine for converting electrici...

ing these farms. I suggest the possibility of &g. 'saying something in the form of interpretation', what I have in mind might be clumsily circumscribed as the arrangement of descriptions (or things) in some configuration which, corresponding to (or fitting) the form of an actual act of interpretation, may facilitate the event of such an act. Clearly such an arrangement is made in an act of its ...

This paper uses cybernetic approach to study behavior of the Riemann zeta function. It is based on the elementary cybernetic concepts like feedback, transfer functions, time delays, PI (Proportional–Integral) controllers or FOPDT (First Order Plus Dead Time) models, respectively. An unusual dynamic interpretation of the Riemann zeta function is obtained.

The paper deals with the problem of speaker-based segmentation. The goal of this task is to extract homogeneous segments containing the longest possible utterances produced by a single speaker. In the method presented here, no assumption is made about prior knowledge of the speaker or speech signal characteristics (there is no speaker model, no speech model, even the number of speakers in the r...

In this issue of IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Magazine, four articles are presented that relate to the fascinating topic machine learning its application for real-world systems.

Search for an integrated, comprehensive theory of information science (IS) has so far been unsuccessful. Appearance of a theory has been retarded by one central constraint, the large number of disciplines concerned with human comnication. Crossdisciplinary interdependence occurs in two ways: theoretical relation of IS phenomena to a given science, and practical relation of the science to IS dis...
