Waste management involves an efficient planing of collectionvehicles and corresponding crews. We present an optimization model and algorithm for the crew scheduling problem which is the second part of an integrative solution approach. We differentiate between a network based duty generation phase and a duty optimization phase where an optimal set of annual duties for all employees is selected.
In airline scheduling a variety of planning and operational decision problems have to be solved. We consider the problems aircraft routing and crew pairing: Aircraft and crew must be allocated to flights in a schedule in a minimal cost way. Although these problems are not independent, they are usually formulated as independent mathematical optimisation models and solved sequentially. This appro...
Planned maintenance and construction activities are crucial for heavily used railway networks to cope with the ever increasing demand. These lead changes in timetable rolling stock schedule (often multiple days) can have a major impact on crew schedule, as render many planned duties infeasible. In this paper, we propose novel integrated approach re-planning, i.e., of new rosters employees given...
The integrated crew scheduling (ICS) problem consists of determining, for a set of available crew members, least-cost schedules that cover all flights and respect various safety and collective agreement rules. A schedule is a sequence of pairings interspersed by rest periods that may contain days off. A pairing is a sequence of flights, connections, and rests starting and ending at the same cre...
For reasons of tractability, the airline scheduling problem has traditionally been sequentially decomposed into various stages (e.g. schedule generation, fleet assignment, aircraft routing, and crew pairing), with the decisions from one stage imposed upon the decision-making process in subsequent stages. Whilst this approach greatly simplifies the solution process, it unfortunately fails to cap...

Every year, hundreds of thousands of people are affected by natural disasters. The number of casualties is usually increased by lack of clean water, food, shelter, and adequate medical care during the aftermath. One of the main problems influencing relief distribution is the state of the post-disaster road network. In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling the emergency repair of a r...
