The Erdős-Gyárfás conjecture states that every graph with minimum degree at least three has a cycle whose length is a power of 2. Since this conjecture has proven to be far from reach, Hobbs asked if the Erdős-Gyárfás conjecture holds in claw-free graphs. In this paper, we obtain some results on this question, in particular for cubic claw-free graphs.
In this study four ruminant species of Nuremberg Zoo were evaluated for subacute ruminal acidosis according to the feeding management. Parameters of microbiological fermentation of the rumen as well as rumen tissue samples were examined. Additionally, investigations on claw health, in terms of laminitis were made. Three of the four species, all grassand roughage feeders, showed severe character...
Determining the relative contributions of diff erent ecological factors for herbivore fi tness is one key to understanding the ecology and evolution of host plant choice by herbivores. Natural enemies are increasingly being recognized as an important factor: host plants of inferior quality for development may still be used by herbivores if they provide enemy-free space (EFS). Here we used the t...
We prove that a claw-free, 2-connected graph with fewer than 18 vertices is traceable, and we determine all non-traceable, claw-free, 2-connected graphs with exactly 18 vertices and a minimal number of edges. This complements a result of Matthews on Hamiltonian graphs.
A graph is called t-perfect, if its stable set polytope is defined by nonnegativity, edge and odd-cycle inequalities. We characterise the class of all claw-free t-perfect graphs by forbidden t-minors. Moreover, we show that claw-free t-perfect graphs are 3-colourable. Such a colouring can be obtained in polynomial time.
Five measurements of claw conformation (toe angle, claw height, claw width, toe length and abaxial groove length) taken directly from the hoof were compared with the measurements taken from digital images of the same claws. Concordance correlation coefficients and limits-of-agreement analysis showed that, for four of the five measures (claw height, claw width, toe length and abaxial groove leng...
The quest for efficient production of pork protein to be able to feed a growing population is critical for the pork industry. A disease that causes a large impact on cost and efficiency of production is lameness. This disease is like a stealthy thief. The losses from this disease often go unnoticed or recognized. The consequences are larger in proportion than most producers are aware. Lameness ...
A cause of claw lameness in dairy cows is biomechanical factors caused by imbalances of the pressure distribution under the hooves when cows are confined in modern dairy operations with hard concrete flooring. Clinically, the earliest diagnosis of claw lameness is only possible by visually observing faulty locomotion (i.e., lame gait). Unfortunately, the earliest pathological gait signs are typ...
Since many -complete graph problems are polynomial-time solvable when restricted to claw-free graphs, we study the problem of determining distance a given graph, considering vertex elimination measure. Claw-free Vertex Deletion (CFVD) consists minimum number vertices be removed from such that resulting is claw-free. Although CFVD -hard in general and recognizing graphs still challenge, where cu...
