We present a code for automated detection, classification, and tracking of solar filaments in full-disk Hα images that can contribute to Living With a Star science investigations and space weather forecasting. The program can reliably identify filaments; determine their chirality and other relevant parameters like filament area, length, and average orientation with respect to the equator. It is...

In article number 2300599, Z.L. Cao, J.Y. Li, S.Z. Deng, and H.J. Chen introduce a rigorous quasinormal mode (QNM) expansion approach for analyzing the interplay between geometrical chirality, far-field circular dichroism, near-field optical chirality. The study reveals that chiroptical handedness strongly depends on excitation direction, whereas chirality is governed by corresponding QNMs.

Recently it has been experimentally confirmed that the chirality of a nanotube controls the speed of its growth, and the armchair nanotube should grow the fastest. Therefore, chirality is an important parameter in designing a carbon nanotube (CNT) and needs to be investigated for the role it plays in the structure of a CNT. In this paper, we have analytically analyzed the unit cell and molecula...

Gold(I)-catalysed intermolecular hydroalkoxylation of enantioenriched 1,3-disubstituted allenes was previously reported to occur with poor chirality transfer due to rapid allene racemisation. The first intermolecular hydroalkoxylation of allenes with efficient chirality transfer is reported here, exploiting conditions that suppress allene racemisation. A full substrate scope study reveals that ...

A chirality-sensitive effect induced by antisymmetric hyperfine coupling, which lifts the intrinsic insensitivity of electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy to molecular chirality, is described.

The catalytic asymmetric Michael addition/desymmetrization reaction of N-(2-t-butylphenyl)maleimides with unprotected 3-substituted-2-oxindoles was successfully realized using a chiral N,N'-dioxide-Sc(III) complex, leading to succinimides with two kinds of stereogenic elements—atom chirality and axial chirality—in up to 99% yield, 99% ee and >19 : 1 d.r.

The circular dichroism of non-racemic molecules, being guests of co-crystalline phases of s-PS films, has been studied. Unexpectedly, the chiral response of non-racemic guest molecules does not depend on their R or S molecular chirality but essentially only on the polymer host supramolecular chirality.

Chirality induction into a uniform, star-shaped fluorene oligomer with a central truxene moiety (T3) was achieved using circularly polarized light in the presence of achiral fluorene or phenanthrene. Induction into T3 alone was difficult, suggesting that close chain packing realized through interactions of T3 with small molecules plays a role in chirality induction.

We report on a numerical study of optical chirality. Intertwined gold helices illuminated with plane waves concentrate right and left circularly polarized electromagnetic field energy to sub-wavelength regions. These spots of enhanced chirality can be smoothly shifted in position and magnitude by varying illumination parameters, allowing for the control of light-matter interactions on a nanomet...
