The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the metal-ceramic bonding of Au-1.6 wt% Ti alloy. Therefore, the coefficient of thermal expansion, modulus of elasticity, ceramic bonding strength, and hardness of Au-1.6 wt% Ti alloy were measured. The metal-ceramic interface was observed by EPMA to investigate its bonding mechanism. The Au-1.6 wt% Ti alloy showed a coefficient of thermal expansion...

All-ceramic restorations have been used for long as restorative material in dentistry. However, the recent advances in both the material and technology of all-ceramic have made them a more viable treatment option. Several practitioners hesitate in giving this option to patient for fear of failure. This article describes all the failures of all-ceramic material and how to prevent them. In partic...

The compression of ceramic powders requires the addition of organic materials to insure tablet cohesion. For the compaction of formulated ceramic powders it is necessary to supply them energy. As a function of the formulation of ceramic powders, one can measure the specific energy acquired during the tablet compression. Recently, a technique used in powder metallurgy, High Velocity Compaction (...

We report a complication during total hip arthroplasty using an uncemented press-fit acetabular shell and ceramic liner for a woman with osteoarthritis. Fracture of the ceramic liner occurred during its insertion owing to non-concentric reduction. The main body of the ceramic liner became wedged in the acetabular shell and was resistant to removal. The shell itself was immovable owing to the pr...

OBJECTIVES To determine the longevity of heat-pressed glass ceramic inlays and onlays luted with solely light-curing composite resin. METHODS The records of patients who had received a ceramic inlay or onlay at the Heidelberg University Department of Conservative Dentistry from 1993 to 2002 were evaluated. The mean observation time and the survival probability of the ceramic inlays and onlays...

BACKGROUND The mechanical properties of alumina ceramic, now in its third generation, have been markedly improved through the evolution of design features and manufacturing processes and the introduction of proof-testing. Nonetheless, because of the lack of ductility of alumina ceramic, there is concern regarding the risk of fracture during insertion or in vivo use. The purpose of the present s...

We are reporting a 25-year-old male, Egyptian ceramic worker, who presented to the Emergency Department of King Fahad University Hospital in Khobar, Saudi Arabia with a history of a ceramic piece which struck his right eye while working two days earlier. To our knowledge, this is the first case in literature, reporting an intralenticular ceramic foreign body.

Quantum molecular dynamics simulations of α-Al2O3(0001)/3C-SiC(111) interfaces reveal profound effects of thermal annealing for producing strong interfaces consisting solely of cation-anion bonds and their consequence on interfacial structures. A Si-terminated SiC surface and Al2O3 form a stronger interface (Si-interface) with a Si-O bond density of 12.2  nm(-2), whereas the C interface has an ...

Experiment was performed to draw a mercury adsorption stoichiometry of ceramic and activated carbon from aqueous phase in two parts first part dealt with the effect of three different pH 4, 7 and 10, whereas second part was designed to determine the effect of three temperatures 15, 25 and 35°C. SEM-EDS analysis of adsorbents clearly showed highly uneven and porous surface structure of activated...
