botulism is a serious paralytic disease caused by clostridium botulinum toxin in foods. there are seven recognized serotypes of botulinum neurotoxins among which the principal prevalent types in humans include a, b and e. infant botulism results from intestinal colonization and toxin production by c. botulinum spores in babies less than 1 year old. honey is the most important food discriminated...

methods this experimental study was conducted on iranian children communities from may to november 2014. forty stool samples were obtained from laboratories and investigated for heat-labile toxin (lt). specific primers were designed and the dig -labeled pcr products were bounded to streptavidin-coated wells of a microtiter plate and detected by anti-dig-peroxidase conjugate. an internal biotin-...

35S-labeled killer toxin protein bound to cells of sensitive Saccharomyces cerevisiae S14a. Strains that were resistant to toxin through mutation in the nuclear genes kre1 kre2 bound toxin only weakly. Non-radioactive toxin competed effectively with 35S-labeled toxin for binding to S14a, but did not compete significantly in the binding to mutant kre1-1. This implied that binding to kre1-1 was ...

Adenylate cyclase (AC) toxin from Bordetella pertussis is unusual in that, unlike most other members of the repeats-in-toxin family that are released into the extracellular milieu, it remains associated with the bacterial surface. In this study, we investigated the nature of the association of this toxin with the surface of B. pertussis. AC toxin was extracted from crude outer membrane preparat...

Lysosomotropic amines, such as ammonium chloride, are known to protect cells from the cytotoxic effects of diphtheria toxin. These drugs are believed to inhibit the transport of the toxin from a receptor at the cell exterior into the cytoplasm where a fragment of the toxin arrests protein synthesis. We studied the effects of lysosomotropic agents on the cytotoxic process to better understand ho...

Toxin neutralizing antibodies represent the major mode of protective immunity against a number of toxin-mediated bacterial diseases, including anthrax; however, the cellular mechanisms that lead to optimal neutralizing antibody responses remain ill defined. Here we show that the cellular binding pathway of anthrax protective antigen (PA), the binding component of anthrax toxin, determines the t...

The biochemical and biologic properties of a purified disulfide conjugate of diphtheria toxin fragment A and human placental lactogen (toxin A-hPL) have been studied by (a) assaying the ADP-ribosyltransferase activity of the intact conjugate, (b) assaying the binding of the intact conjugate to mammary gland plasma membrane lactogenic receptors, and (c) assaying the effect of the conjugate on th...

Both T-2 toxin and HT-2 toxin can be conveniently quantitated in crude extracts by using a combination of thin-layer chromatography and fluorodensitometry. This technique was used to follow the production of these toxins by liquid cultures of Fusarium poae (NRRL 3287). T-2 toxin was produced prior to HT-2 toxin and hexadeuterio-T-2 toxin was converted by the culture to trideuterio-HT-2 toxin.

among the therapeutic options for achalasia are pneumatic dilatation (pd), an appropriate long-term therapy, and botulinum toxin injection (bt) that is a relatively short-term therapy. this study aimed to compare therapeutic effect of repetitive pneumatic dilation with a combined method (botulinum toxin injection and pneumatic dilation) in a group of achalasia patients who are low responder to ...
