Two-dimensional patterning of the follicular epithelium in Drosophila oogenesis is required for the formation of three-dimensional eggshell structures. Our analysis of a large number of published gene expression patterns in the follicle cells suggests that they follow a simple combinatorial code based on six spatial building blocks and the operations of union, difference, intersection, and addi...

This paper describes a domain-specific software development method for the creation of building simulators. The method is based on object-oriented modeling, design patterns and code generation principles. The goal is to provide customizable building simulators that exactly simulate those physical effects an application demands. The numerical accuracy and different algorithms to be used can be t...

Static force procedures of most building codes require that the lateral earthquake force at each floor level of an asymmetric-plan building be applied eccentrically from the centers of rigidity. To implement such procedures, it seemed necessary in the past to determine the locations of the centers of rigidity, an often confusing and cumbersome process. This paper presents a new approach for cod...

Performance based seismic design (PBSD) is an alternative to code based approaches to design or evaluation of structures that fail to yield a more direct relationship between a seismic event and the corresponding structural performance of a building; this generally leads to over-conservatism. This paper presents a case study on the alternative procedures used in the performance based design of ...

Developmental processes in complex animals are directed by a hardwired genomic regulatory code, the ultimate function of which is to set up a progression of transcriptional regulatory states in space and time. The code specifies the gene regulatory networks (GRNs) that underlie all major developmental events. Models of GRNs are required for analysis, for experimental manipulation and, most fund...

For the first time, 2018 edition of Turkish Building Earthquake Code has added a dedicated chapter for design high-rise buildings in earthquake-prone areas. Keeping view widely practised option rigid shear walls at centre structure, latest code additionally defined limits shear-wall axial forces buildings. The new force have not been independently investigated optimal and criticality. This call...

A locally recoverable code is a code over a finite alphabet such that the value of any single coordinate of a codeword can be recovered from the values of a small subset of other coordinates. Building on work of Barg, Tamo, and Vlăduţ, we present several constructions of locally recoverable codes from algebraic curves and surfaces.
