During the last two decades, terrestrial TV broadcasting has evolved from analog to digital technology, permitting a better spectrum efficiency, being more resistant noise and interference as well improving signal quality. High Definition TeleVison (HDTV) been introduced enhance viewer's experience. HDTV Ultra TeleVision bring challenge of having quasi-error free performance at bit error rate l...

This paper summarizes and discusses findings on compatibility of the forthcoming DRM mode E into classical VHF FM sound broadcasting. The results are based on theoretical considerations, lab measurements, field trials and radio network planning exercises. In addition, the status of the ongoing work towards a comprehensive DRM mode E coverage study including first results hereof are given.

XM radio service is an emerging satellite digital audio radio service suitable for automotive environment, it offers users high-quality radio programs with better signal coverage by adopting communication satellite broadcasting technology. In order to incorporate XM radio function into a digital car audio system based on the embedded system industry standard ITRON, we analyze both software and ...

The ‘social relations of science’ movement grew to prominence in the 1930s. Its story has been told by McGucken (1984), MacLeod and MacLeod (1976), and Werskey (1978) among others. The movement consisted of predominantly left-wing scientists who held that science could and should be applied to the alleviation of social problems, and that a rationally planned society was more just, and more effi...

he demand for cost-efficient provision of mobile multimedia services is faced with the reality of scarce radio resources. The requirement of spectrum efficiency has driven the development of various digital radio technologies — digital audio broadcasting (DAB), digital video broadcasting (DVB), Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM), General Packet Radio System (GPRS), Universal Mobile T...

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) consists of sensors implanted in an environment for collecting and transmitting data regarding changes in the environment based on the requests from a controlling device (called base station) using wireless communication. WSNs are being used in medical, military, and environment monitoring applications. Broadcast (dissemination of information from a central node)...

Because of its unique digital transmission, HD Radio® requires new methods and standards to measure and predict signal coverage, relative to analog FM. Because analog FM reception quality is known to decline gradually with degraded RF signal quality, analog FM service may be quantified in simple terms of signal strength. With digital audio broadcasting, reception quality remains ‘perfect’ until...

We study two fundamental communication primitives: broadcasting and leader election in the classical model of multi-hop radio networks with unknown topology and without collision detection mechanisms. It has been known for almost 20 years that in undirected networks with n nodes and diameterD, randomized broadcasting requiresΩ(D log n D +log n) rounds in expectation, assuming that uninformed no...
