This study evaluated the symbiotic effectiveness and economic evaluation of Rhizobium inoculants with the objective of recommending the most effective inoculant strain for soybean and cowpea production in Northern Ghana. Field experiments were established in three locations using randomized complete block design with five blocks. A total of four treatments (Legumefix, Biofix, 100 kg N ha-1 and ...
Bradyrhizobium stylosanthis BR 446(T) is a nitrogen-fixing symbiont of the tropical legume pasture Stylosanthes guianensis Its draft genome contains 8,801,717 bp and 8,239 coding sequences (CDSs). Several putative genes that might confer high competitiveness and saprophytic capacity under the stressful conditions of tropical soils were identified in the genome.
The complete nucleotide sequence of the nodS gene from the bean-nodulating Rhizobium etli, presumably encoding a methyltransferase, was determined. A phylogenetic analysis of five different NodS proteins from three genera of Gram- soil bacteria, Azorhizobium, Bradyrhizobium and Rhizobium, was performed.
Rhizobitoxine is synthesized by the legume symbiont Bradyrhizobium elkanii and the plant pathogen Burkholderia andropogonis. Rhizobitoxine competitively inhibited 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate (ACC) synthase bLE-ACS2 from the tomato, a key enzyme in the pathway of ethylene biosynthesis. Based on this inhibition of ACC synthase, we have developed a new assay for rhizobitoxine.
N(2)O reductase activity in soybean nodules formed with Bradyrhizobium japonicum was evaluated from N(2)O uptake and conversion of (15)N-N(2)O into (15)N-N(2). Free-living cells of USDA110 showed N(2)O reductase activity, whereas a nosZ mutant did not. Complementation of the nosZ mutant with two cosmids containing the nosRZDFYLX genes of B. japonicum USDA110 restored the N(2)O reductase activit...
Bradyrhizobium japonicum strain FN1 was found to produce bacteriocin-like zones of clearing when tested against other strains of bradyrhizbia. The genome was sequenced, and several putative bacteriocin-producing genes, in addition to the expected genes involved in nodulation and nitrogen fixation, were identified.
