The purpose of this article is to review the anatomical features of the most common nerve entrapment sites of the brachial plexus and major peripheral nerves of the upper limb. In this account, the term "entrapment" is considered to be caused by compression, tension, or friction, or any combination of these factors. The anatomy, including important relationships of the brachial plexus, is revie...
573 Abstract: The anatomical variations of the brachial plexus in human have clinical significance to surgeons, radiologists and anatomists. We studied some variations in the formation of 130 brachial plexuses in sixty-five infant cadavers (34 males, 31 females; aged 1-7 days). The brachial plexus consisted of the 5, 6, 7, and 8 cervical spinal nerves and 1 thoracic spinal nerve (69.23%). We fo...
Brachial plexus neuritis is reportedly caused by various factors; however, it has not been described in association with Streptococcus agalactiae. This is a case report of a patient diagnosed with brachial plexus neuritis associated with pyogenic arthritis of the shoulder. A 57-year-old man visited the hospital complaining of sudden weakness and painful swelling of the left arm. The diagnosis w...
BACKGROUND Magnetic resonance neurography (MRN) is an imaging method by which nerves can be selectively highlighted. Using commercial software, the authors explored a variety of approaches to develop a three-dimensional volume-rendered MRN image of the entire brachial plexus and used it to evaluate the accuracy of infraclavicular block approaches. METHODS With institutional review board appro...
MRI was performed on the spinal roots, brachial and lumbar plexuses of 14 patients with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP). Hypertrophy of cervical roots and brachial plexus was demonstrated in eight cases, six of whom also had hypertrophy of the lumbar plexus. Of 11 patients who received gadolinium, five of six cases with hypertrophy and one of five without hypertrophy de...
We describe a technique for conducting a CT-guided biopsy of the brachial plexus region, report two illustrative cases, discuss potential complications, and conclude that, in selected cases, biopsy of lesions in the region of the brachial plexus can be performed safely with CT guidance.
We present a 19-year-old girl who developed a left brachial plexus neuritis following vaccination with a quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. Post-vaccination brachial plexus neuritis is a rare event. Nevertheless, this first case warrants careful attention in view of the large vaccination campaigns in young adolescents being launched all over the world.
Horner's syndrome is a rare side effect of epidural analgesia. In association with ipsilateral brachial plexus block, it has only been reported once before, in French. Unilateral blockade has also been reported, although its etiology is unclear and may be multifactorial. The patient described here experienced an asymmetrical epidural blockade with a unilateral Horner's syndrome and ipsilateral ...
