Abstract Hollow capsules with multi-shelled or multicomponent structures are essential materials for various applications. Biomedical applications like disease diagnosis, therapy, and monitoring have special significance as they aim to improve health conditions. This review demonstrated a comprehensive overview of hollow, multifunctional incorporating meaningful use nanotechnology its’ unique p...
This article adopts a holistic view of Alzheimer's disease. Biomedical, psychological and social aspects of the condition are discussed, and aetiology, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment explored. A range of approaches to working with people with Alzheimer's disease, based on a psychological model of dementia, is described including reminiscence and cognitive stimulation therapy.
In this thesis we demonstrate novel methods to overcome optical scattering in order to resolve information about hidden scenes, in particular for biomedical applications. Imaging through scattering media has long been a challenge, as scattering corrupts scenes in a non-invertible way. The use of near-visible optical spectrum for biomedical purposes has many advantages, such as optical contrast,...
Drug name entity recognition focuses on identifying concepts appearing in the text that correspond to a chemical substance used in pharmacology for treatment, cure, prevention or diagnosis of diseases. This paper describes a system based on ontologies for identifying the chemical substances in biomedical text. The system achieves an F-1 measure of 0.529

We have recently proposed a mathematical framework for crowd-sourcing of biomedical image analysis and diagnosis through digital gaming. Here we review our recent progress on this gaming platform and demonstrate its viability for telediagnosis of malaria, achieving an accuracy that is within less than 2 percent of that of a trained expert.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have shown great promise in biomedical applications. In this review, we summarize the recent advances in the design and fabrication of core-shell and hetero-structured SPIONs and further outline some exciting developments and progresses of these multifunctional SPIONs for diagnosis, multimodality imaging, therapy, and biophotonics.
