Mesoporous titania nanoparticles (MTNs) with excellent biocompatibility (LC(50)≈ 400 μg mL(-1)) and a large surface area (ca. 237.3 m(2) g(-1)) were synthesized and further functionalized with a phosphate-containing fluorescent molecule (i.e. flavin mononucleotide; FMN) and loaded with an anticancer drug (i.e. Doxorubicin) for successful intracellular bioimaging and drug delivery, respectively,...
Optical properties of biphenyl difluoroboron β-diketonates were studied in poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blends. Increased conjugation lowered the emission energy, decreased the singlet-triplet energy gap and yielded blue thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). The properties of these biphenyl dyes may inform organic light emitting diode (OLED) and bioimaging agent design.
A near-infrared chemosensor for palladium based on the Tsuji-Trost reaction was developed. It displayed specific and ratiometric fluorescent responses toward palladium with a distinct color change from green to blue in aqueous media. PEG400 was employed as the reducing agent and palladium ligand instead of water-insoluble triphenylphosphine. The chemosensor's bioimaging potential was demonstrat...
Controlled diluted aqua regia addition leads to NIR (near infrared) luminescence from aggregated gold nanoparticles at 916 nm. This turn-on luminescence has been observed for gold nanoparticles, regardless of reductants used in their preparation. These aggregated nanoparticles are nontoxic and have been used for bioimaging in human liver carcinoma cells.

Synthesis of the first self-immobilizing, fluorogenic unnatural amino acid that mimics phosphotyrosine (pTyr) is reported. By using solid-phase peptide synthesis, it was subsequently incorporated into peptide-based probes which found applications in bioimaging and fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS).

A unique pH-driven Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) based biosensor emission by a pyrazoline-doxorubicin pair has been deciphered with a bioimaging application in a live HepG2 cell whereas conformational switching of both molecules at elevated pH reveals a fascinating twist (FRET-OFF) via strong fluorescent exciplex formation.
Two cationic iridium(III) complexes with bright green and red emissions were demonstrated as phosphorescent dyes for living cell imaging. In particular, their exclusive staining in cytoplasm, low cytotoxicity and reduced photobleaching, as well as cell membrane permeability, make the two complexes promising candidates for the design of specific bioimaging agents.
