DHA-1 is an inducible plasmid-mediated AmpC b-lactamase whose emergence raises concerns because the mortality of patients infected with organisms that produce DHA-1 has been shown to be higher than that of patients infected with organisms that produce CMY-1. In conclusion, we have demonstrated that plasmid-mediated AmpC b-lactamases have emerged in Switzerland. The prevalence of 0.16% is still ...

A multiplex, real-time TaqMan assay was designed to identify clinical isolates carrying plasmid-mediated ampC genes. The specificity and sensitivity of this assay were 100% when testing characterized AmpC/non-AmpC-producing isolates and randomly selected clinical isolates. This is a rapid assay that can be performed in a clinical microbiology laboratory.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Pseudomonas aeruginosa is responsible for devastating nosocomial infections among severely burn patients. Class C of cephalosporinase (AmpC-β-lactamases) is important cause of multiple β-lactam resistance in P. aeruginosa. The aim of this study was to detect the AmpC-β-lactamases producing isolates among carbapenem resistant P. aeruginosa isolated from burn patient. ...

learning a second or foreign language requires the manipulation of four main skills, namely, listening, reading, speaking, and writing which lead to effective communication. it is obvious that vocabulary is an indispensible part of any communication, so without a vocabulary, no meaningful communication can take place and meaningful communication relies heavily on vocabulary. one fundamental fac...

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVES AmpC β-lactamases which are often plasmid mediated hydrolyze all β-lactam antibiotics except cefepime and carbapenems. We evaluated the presence of AmpC β-lactamases among Enterobacteriaceae strains recovered prospectively from patients at five Indian tertiary care centres. METHODS The study included 909 consecutive Gram-negative isolates recovered from clinically sign...

INTRODUCTION Few reports about the prevalence and genetic basis of extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs) are available from Saudi Arabia. We sought to determine the prevalence of ESBL-producing Enterobacteriaceae in a university hospital in eastern Saudi Arabia and to characterize the ESBLs produced by these isolates at the molecular level. METHODOLOGY All clinical isolates of Escherichia...

The increasing trend of β-lactam resistance among Enterobacteriaceae is a worldwide threat. Enterobacteriaceae isolates causing intra-abdominal infections (IAI) from the Study for Monitoring Antimicrobial Resistance Trends (SMART) collected in 2008 and 2009 from the Asia-Pacific region were investigated. Detection of extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBLs), AmpC β-lactamases, and carbapenemases ...

BACKGROUND Quinolone resistance in Enterobacteriaceae species has increased over the past few years, and is significantly associated to beta-lactam resistance. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of chromosomal- and plasmid-mediated quinolone resistance in acquired AmpC β-lactamase and/or carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates. METHODS The presence of chromosomal...
