We report a case of eczema herpeticum with unilateral ocular involvement in a 16-year-old boy. The patient has had a mild form of atopic dermatitis (AD) since early childhood. Why AD patients are prone to herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections is still unclear. Ocular pathologic findings in these cases are rarely reported.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease with an estimated prevalence of 10–15% in children and 2–10% adults. Clinically, there notable phenotypic variability driven by complex interaction between genetics, immune function, the environment. Impairment barrier plays significant role pathogenesis AD. The apparent beneficial effect sunlight patients atopic eczema questioned du...
A total of 285 adult patients (123 men and 162 women) with AD who married non-atopic persons and had at least one child have been seen in our outpatient clinic over the past 8 years (1990 ^ 97). All had moderate to severe disease. A personal history of respiratory atopy was obtained in 137 (48%) of the 285 patients. All patients ful¢lled the diagnostic criteria of Hani¢n & Rajka (1). In the 285...
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is characterized by chronic highly pruritic and relapsing inflammatory skin lesions. Despite its growing prevalence, therapeutic treatments remain limited. Natural immune modulators from herbal extracts or derivatives may be useful for treating AD symptoms. This study examined the effect of 7,8,4'-trihydroxyisoflavone (7,8,4'-THIF), a metabolite of soy isoflavone daidzin,...
Some differences in behavioral characteristics have been attributed to atopic dermatitis (AD). In this study, AD patients compared with healthy toddlers had significantly higher scores in perceptual sensitivity and high pleasure in an early childhood behavior questionnaire (ECBQ). They tended to be more energetic and impulsive, and also showed more excitement when subjected to novel stimuli.
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is now becoming very common and is being diagnosed in a vast majority of children. AD is known to be associated with several comorbidities. The connection seems to be due to more than one reason – genomes, skin barrier dysfunction, and inflammation.
atopic dermatitis (ad) is one of the most common infantile diseases. immunological dysfunctions in ad patients may predispose them to infections. the aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between infantile ad and urinary tract infection (uti). in this cross sectional study, we enrolled 57 patients with ad aged 1 to 24 months that referred to dermatology clinic, and 57 healthy contr...
abstract background: atopic dermatitis is a common skin disease associated with chronic inflammation in the skin and itches and most patients have a positive family history of dermatitis. the major treatment of dermatitis, based on allopathic medicine, includes symptomatic treatment by oral antihistamines and topical or oral corticosteroids, which, in long-term, will cause various side effects....
PURPOSE OF REVIEW To describe recent developments in therapies which target the molecular mechanisms in atopic dermatitis. RECENT FINDINGS Current advances in the understanding of the molecular basis of atopic dermatitis are leading to the stratification of different atopic dermatitis phenotypes. New therapies offer the option to target-specific molecules involved in the pathophysiology of at...
BACKGROUND Atopic patients are exceptionally sensitive to airborne allergens. Sensitization to fungal allergens may be associated with respiratory allergic disease (RAD) and atopic dermatitis (AD). This study investigates the relationship between sensitization to different fungal allergens and the clinical manifestations of atopic disease. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the medical recor...
